Well, certainly Newt felt that way after SC, and Mitt felt that way after FLA/NV.... Things changed in a night; and they’ll likely change again.

In a couple of weeks, Newt tries his southern strategy— and if you’re right, (that his support has waned), than that strategy will fail. At that point,he would likely bow out.

It’s like saying I want to set up a trust fund for the kid of a guy that breaks into my house and robs me.

I want to shoot him.

See, this is my problem with the Priest, Rick Santorum.

Clearly this kind of theological stuff is not black and white, but Rick is so sanctimonious he cant help but push it to the front.

The County’s on the verge of fiscal collapse, so why not prove what a pious guy he is to detract from his big Gov spending?

You are right. Even here on Free Republic, it seems that over half of Sanctimonium’s supporters post messages inferring God being the reason for Sanctimonium’s success, and Sanctimonium being’s God’s candidate; after all, Sanctimonium announced a few days ago that God Himself called him to run. As far as I am concerned, that kind of talk is very scary to secular voters of all kinds, and even worries me...

Here is my hope - and I hope it is not naive: Sanctimonium may be benefiting from barack’s latest anti-religious excursion. But Newt is also a Catholic, has been talking about the Obama war on religion for a long time. He has written excellent books, produced documentaries on the subject, when it wasn’t hot... that is all in Newt’s history... and is formidable and undeniable.

Sanctimonium is just so shallow and superficial on issues, and Newt has got stuff that people can sink their teeth into, but you have to get them introduced to Newt... that is my passion... I hope it will be yours.

I’m going to say this story one more time before I go to bed.
My Father was in one of these dilemmas with the Church and he asked for help for a family but they were all ostracized.

Pop gave his tithe to that family and left the church but he never gave up his faith in God or this family.

It had nothing to do with abortion, it had to do with the loss of a job.

I will never forget that.

My Father left the Congregation to give his tithe to this family.

HE never left the Faith, nor did THEY.

While Newt is my #1 choice, if he stops Romney and pushes this to an open convention, he is a hero and has once again saved our republic. And if Santorum wins enough delegates outright, I will gladly support him (or Perry or Palin or any other non-liberal RINO) nominated at an open convention. I hope, though, that the nominee listens to Mr. Newt, he has an excellent plan for turning this country around, what he wants to do is exactly what needs to be done! Shame on Romney for doing is best to destroy Newt, nominee or not, Newt should be respected and he should be listened to, and his advice taken seriously, and followed!

How did that open convention turn out for the GOP?

I like the idea of an open convention. I like the idea that a Sarah or Perry or Paul Ryan would have a much better shot at winning it than Newt.

Hypothetically speaking, if it did go to an open convention would the choices still be basically between who is left, or could delegates vote for someone else that’s not currently in the race?

Delegates after the first ballot can vote for who they want and this includes new candidates nominated from the floor.

This is all a moot point. We have already fractured the GOP to the degree that whomever the nominee is, they will limp into the GE so beaten, battered and bruised that all Obozo will have to do is put his foot on their neck and raise his hand in victory; when Prez-dude should lose by a large margin. Once again, as we did in '92, and gave the world the Clintons for life, WE HAVE MANAGED TO PULL DEFEAT FROM THE JAWS OF VICTORY.

As far as I’ve seen Kristol isn’t backing Romney. He’s pretty much said he wants a brokered convention and wants someone other than the current crop to be the nominee.

That would suit me very much. The current crop are just barely so-so. As in mediocre at best.

Open convention? That suits Gingrich doesn’t it. After the first round of voting, delegates no longer have to be committed to the candidate for whom they pledged. It’s like Gingrich’s ideas about marriage.
