HENDERSON, NV (FOX5) - One of the officers videotaped beating a man during a traffic stop was identified Wednesday as a 9-year veteran of Henderson police.
Sgt. Brett Seekatz was one of the officers videotaped beating Adam Greene near Lake Mead Boulevard and Boulder Highway in 2010, according to Keith Paul with Henderson police.

This highly paid officer, Sgt Seekatz, who in return for beating the crap out of citizens was paid $109,460 dollars in 2010. The Henderson P.D. pulled over Mr. Greene who was driving erratically. Mr. Greene, who was in diabetic shock and seizure was unable to follow officer commands. He was subsequently pulled out of his vehicle and beaten, and beaten until somebody found the insulin syringe in his pocket.
What I find interesting is that after finding the syringes non of the cops seemed the least bit worried about what they had just done. They were pretty confident that the "system" would protect them. The joviality evidenced says that beating up citizens is just good fun and a perk of the job.
This kind of incident happens all over the country, every night in a country of 300 million plus. Nobody really sweats the occasional mistaken beating by cops. No biggie I guess.
But I am ashamed to pay these guys. Ashamed to support them. Ashamed of what they are doing in my name with my tax dollars.
The other story today that was interesting to me was congress approving the wide spread use of drones for domestic surveillance. Big Brother is here. He is entrenched. He is widely supported, even here at Free Republic. These kinds of issues have no traction in the political debates of an election year. So were are we headed in "This Land of Liberty"? I don't know. But it's not good.
There are those on FR who say we could never become a police state cause cops would NEVER turn on us. I say they already have!
It could have been a lot worse.
What could be the justification offered for the beating?
It seems to me if there’s “reason to believe” the person stopped isintending battery or other harm, then, MAYBE “discipline”,”counceling”, etc. is in order.
If there is no such “reason to believe” then I think it should be treated as criminal A&B.
Yeah, he has to go out to get the donuts for the next week.
$109,000 for a cop?? Please....
It used to be a valid claim that there were one or two bad apples in the bunch on a force the size of Vegas/Henderson. Now if looks like urban PD’s (and more than a few suburbsn PD’s) have about a 50/50 ratio of people spring-loaded to the assault position. I think this going to get worse.
On a percentage basis is the problem getting better or worse?
And there are many on FR who ignore all of the acts of bravery and self sacrifice of good Cops as if they don't happen or never existed.
In federal use of force policy kicks to the head are considered deadly force.
9mm manhoods.
Apparently beating the crap out of people the Police make contact with is just S.O.P. in many jurisdictions.
Henderson is apparently paying Sgt’s six figure compensation to beat abuse motorist. Seems like a great deal of money for the amount of education and technical complexity that a Police Officer needs to have.
In the private sector, a six figure compensation requires doing a job that most cannot do, and working very very long hours.
This guy is just another Police Sgt. A job that anybody who has run a taco bell crew could successfully navigate.
Thank God we still have the freedom to publically point out the distinction.
Thank God we still have the freedom to publically point out the distinction.
Lot’s of secretaries died. As did middle managers. Top managers. How many died sacrificing themselves to save others we will never know. The only difference is they don’t get a plaque like the public service sector people get.
Heroism is everywhere. Corruption is everywhere. Cowardice is everywhere. Sacrifice is everywhere. Avarice is everywhere.
Private sector keeps the wheels on the wagon. Public sector gets awards.
I would rather be a producer, working behind the scenes than a consumer any day.
I was appalled by the train of logic I heard used by police when I served on a jury last year.
They managed to justify leaving their patrol area, after their shift was over at one in the morning, go onto a private property on a secluded driveway, waking the property owner who was passed out in the front seat of his truck listening to the radio, arrest him for DUI, have his CDL terminated for a year because he would not take a breath test.
The cops and the state were so intent on proving the guy was drunk, they forgot to worry about whether it was any of their business , or what they were doing to prove it.
We found him not guilty faster than it took them to reassemble the court to read our verdict.
That’s a good question, “is the problem getting better or worse”.
I know stories have always been “out their” of dirty deeds done by the Public sector.
But the casual attitude of the Police evidenced in the video pisses me off. Whether better or worse I can’t say. I can say it is embarrassing and unacceptable.
Only three years on the job and already a Sargeant? Must be somebody’s fair-haired boy.
Are those acts suppose to give immunity from violations of our civil rights committed under the color of authority?
