Archbishop Dolan urges Obama to back down on birth control

"This was a terribly misguided judgement," Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York said in an interview of CBS This Morning.

Dolan, who is set to become a cardinal later this month, said he met with Obama in the Oval Office late last year and was promised the White House would work with the Catholic church on a number of issues, including education, healthcare and charitable work.

"I am hoping that this massive negative reaction to this ruling, I am hoping that he will go back to those assurances that he gave me," Dolan said.

First of all, if the Church stayed out of politics, this ridulous mandate would stand. Now it won’t.

Secondly, you’re quite right about what certain bishops have sacrificed for the greater glory of the Rat party. This isn’t unique to America, but it’s a relatively new phenomenon, perhaps because of the whole (frequently misunderstood) notion of democracy. The Church, thank the Lord, is NOT a democracy, but many priests, bishops, and cardinals—because they’re all fallible human beings—seem to believe that it’s okay to defy Church principles in the name of democracy or, more crudely, polls. They are not “the Church.” Nor is Notre Dame or Georgetown. Nor are Biden, Pelosi, Cuomo, Kennedys, Kerry, Daschle, McCulsky, Daly, etc. Painting the Church with their brushes isn’t just unfair, it’s ugly.

We agree, I’m sure, that it’s about time that the individual bishops (not “the Church”) saw the light, in the light of their duties to their Church—not to mention their duties as American citizens to call out those who violate their oaths to the U. S. Constitution.

  The following comments from one of my state senators, totally infuriated me.

"It is sad that we have to stand here yet again to fight back against another overreach and intrusion on women's lives," said Gillibrand, a Catholic. "The power to decide whether or not to use contraception lies with a woman, not her boss."

Not surprisingly, the local media interviewed catholics and found a 73 year old woman at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, whose comments mirrored those of Senator Gillibrand.

I fault the bishops who, for the past half century, have ignored this topic and others, of a 'controversial' nature, when addressing their congregants. Ignorant catholics are a product of poor catechesis - misinformed and misguided. You cannot reap what you have not sown.

Maybe Santorum is on to something. Archbishop Dolan may have preached against contraception but he would be the exception. Let’s hear it from the pulpit along with shacking up. We have to be preaching to our own people before politicians will listen. Cardinal O’Boyle should still be alive.

I wholeheartedly agree with you that the Bishops have failed in the teaching of Humanae Vitae, although there were many so-called moral theologians who did the real damage. What is needed today is a change of heart, and Obama by his gross actions may just have angered enough sleeping Catholics as well as people of other faiths to become true soldiers of Christ.

For centuries they’ve been trying to align themselves with power, first with royalty and more recently with the Democratic party.

Why do these Liberals feel the need for someone else to pay for their contraception? The Catholic Church is full of sinners, but they shouldn't be required to pay for the sin.

The Catholic Church states clearly their faith based principles, and they do not force anyone to sin or use contraceptives (or not to use them). So why does the government feel that they are entitled to force others to pay for something that goes against their principles?

This is about the government forcing this and taking away our God given human rights. What is next?

First I don,t have a pastor or any of the above. I do not believe in any so-called word of God religions that exist. Man made religion to control the people and to use it as a way to make money, so thgey have the means to control more people. I believe in God but not in man-made religion.
