The Maine Republican Party is being urged to reconsider its announcement that presidential candidate Mitt Romney won a preference poll of state caucus-goers, the Bangor Daily News reports.
The Maine GOP said on Saturday that Romney had defeated Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, 39 percent to 36 percent, or less than 200 votes, in the states weeklong caucuses. To be counted, party officials said the meetings had to be concluded by Feb. 11.
According to the newspaper, some communities that followed caucus procedure were still not counted in the final tabulation. In addition, one county was forced to postpone its caucus because of a snowstorm and so was not included in the count.
Some prominent figures in the state, including Senate President Kevin Raye, have protested, urging party officials to take into account additional results.
GOP Chairman Charlie Webster told the Bangor Daily News that he doesnt think including those results would change the outcome. He said the state party committee would decide whether to reconsider when it meets next month.

If the final count changed the outcome in Iowa, perhaps it could in Maine, as well. If that happens, it’s another hold in the good ship Romney.
Gotta admit I’m hoping for a Ron Paul win in Va.
Corrupt bastards should be run out on a rail!! Count the damn vote!!
“Gotta admit Im hoping for a Ron Paul win in Va.”
You’re not the only one. I would also approve if Ron Paul were to win in Maine, I’d approve.
Yes, sir. They need to count the votes.
Yes, sir. A Ron Paul victory for Maine.
Oh Yeah,
Maine, a tie between the RINO and the crazy uncle.
The votes mean NOTHING!
NO delegates selected, nothing. A waste.
Who cares? All 3 Ricky wins equaled zip - popularity contests at best. In Mo Newt wasn’t even on the ‘ballot’.
each caucus elected delegates .... try reversing those results. In in their hearts, 90% are bound. Try changing a MITT delegate to something else.
Also, Waldo County held their caucus on 2/4 and the results were never recorded by the state party. Ron Paul won that county big. Maybe by a 80-vote margin.
“Corrupt bastards should be run out on a rail!! Count the damn vote!!”
The Repubican “party leaders” are behaving just like the RATs. Judge Napolitano was right last night when he postulated that what we really have is two wings of the same party. After the election, decent people need to clean house in the GOP or simply call it done and start a new party that will run on its principles all the time, not just when it is out of power.
they still haven’t included Washington County’s or ours - There’s a no-confidence letter going out tomorrow - lotta people upset...
We saw the games played in Iowa. It's lunacy.
I'd love to see Ron Paul upset Romney in VA in their head-to-head. If he can flip Maine in the final tally like Santorum eventually did in Iowa, all the better.
The non-Romneys must play "keep away."
Maine is not exactly LIBERAL... and it would be funny to have Paul win it. :) Maine has a history of wanting WASHINGTON to leave them alone.
I haven’t been on here for a while, too bust getting republicans elected in Lewiston Maine! We’ve got a republican Mayor, Bob Macdonald and a republican leaning city council. Anyway I was on the androscoggin caucus committee, and what a blast it was saturday. 500 people came to the caucus. Anyway I supported Paul because I dislike Romney and I wanted Romney to lose the county and state. In the county Paul won 212 to 148 for Romney. Santorum got 137 votes. My good friend Ken spoke on Santorum’s behalf because Santorum didn’t send a rep to the event. He did a great job and I think it helped to jack up Santorum’s vote. Anyway 70% of us in Andro voted against Romney. So I feel good about that. Paul might end up with the most delegate state wide yet as well and we might control the the state delegation and county committees. I say ‘we’ meaning the Paul and Santorum folks.
I don’t know Charlie Webster personally, I don’t have anything bad to see about him as a person. But it looked really bad for the state chair to say the votes in Washington County on the 18th weren’t going to be included in the straw poll. And I’ve heard of problems with the Portland caucus. So I hope the vote goes through in Washington County and Romney gets another huge defeat from a very conservative county.
We’re working on it. First step is to elect state committee people at each county committee this spring that are conservatives for a change. I’m confident that the 70% of us in Androscoggin county that voted against romeny will be elected state committee people that will want a change at the top.
waterville held a caucus on 2/4, as did Waldo County.
They all have 0 (zero) for their results in the final totals. So Washington Cnty is just one issue. Creeps.
I know. All I can tell folks is that in my own backyard Lewiston, and my bigger backyard androscoggin county we took care of business. And when we meet in may to choose our new executive county committee, no rinos will be on it. And our state committee, and at large committee members are going to be looking to make changes in the state party. We’ve gotthe southern part of the state which is filled with rino wackos who think they control the party because they’ve got money. Well, I think there dys of running the state party are over. And I’d also add thay I didn’t think dambosie had a shot against snowe in the primary. I think if all the votes are counted, lets pray, he might have a shot at her in the primary.
