Rush was talking about this again and he brought up that this is really being aimed at Conservatives in general - especially in an election year. If Obama and his allies can make this election about "rights" versus government intrusion into personal decisions, he thinks he can win. The media have already twisted Santorum's comments to mean, if elected, he would outlaw contraception - something he never said much less alluded to even thinking about.

The leftist tactics are not so much an attack on the Catholic Church, specifically, but Conservative Christians in general and, of course, Almighty God in particular.

Well of course they attack conservatives and God in general, always. But the major obstacle of any size and organization left in is the Catholic Church. That’s why we’re the primary target here. You don’t see them touting Episcopalian support. Most all the mainstream Protestant Churches have already lost the culture war to them.

The Church is key in the foundation and preservation of Western Civilization - that which they wish to destroy, er, remake.
