Top GOP Senator Says ‘If Romney Loses Michigan, We Need a New Candidate’
ABC News ^ | Feb 17, 2012 | Jonathan Karl

A prominent Republican senator just told me that if Romney can’t win in Michigan, the Republican Party needs to go back to the drawing board and convince somebody new to get into the race. “If Romney cannot win Michigan, we need a new candidate,” said the senator, who has not endorsed anyone and requested anonymity. The senator believes Romney will ultimately win in Michigan but says he will publicly call for the party to find a new candidate if he does not. “We’d get killed,” the senator said if Romney manages to win the nomination after he failed to win the state in which he grew up. “He’d be too damaged,” he said. “If he can’t even win in Michigan, where his family is from, where he grew up.” What about Rick Santorum? “He’d lose 35 states,” the senator said, predicting the same fate for Newt Gingrich. It would have to be somebody else, the senator said. Who? “Jeb Bush,” the former Florida governor.

This anonymous senator (GOP-e) has it all wrong. Newt will be nominated, win the election and with the help of ‘the people’ bring this great nation back to prosperity.

I bet the “annonymous” Senator is Luger.

My very first impression, as well.

He should be advised that, were he the candidate, he would lose 50 states. I couldn't even promise him Texas.

If that senator needs that to figure this out, he needs to be primaried.

I’d really like to find out who this anonymous GOP Senator was because (s)he is a:

Coward - thinks Romney is the only candidate worth nominating, yet hasn’t the stones to publicly state it;

Fascist - wants to replace a DEMOCRATICALLY elected candidate with one of his/her own choosing.

This GOP Senator needs to be outed so they can be primaried the hell out of Washington.

Even if Jeb Bush were okay ideologically (and I don’t know whether or not he is), he’d lose too many swing voters who are simply dead set against any Bush, merits aside.

Some ideas:
DeMint
Perry
Daniels
Jindal

With a top-notch, conservative VP pick like Allen West or Marco Rubio. Maybe even Rand Paul.

JMO, YMMV.

My guess is he’s from Indiana, older than dirt and about to get primaried.

Just encourage Romney to drop out, save all candidates a lot of $$$, and let the final 3 fight it out for a while.

Gingrich or Santorum could make the other his VP candidate and nominate Paul as Secretary of the new cabinet-level Department of Liberty, the sole job of which will be to identify agencies and other cabinet-level departments for pruning or elimination, as well as planning how not to allow the dumping of that many bureaucrats on the public streets with honest people to lead to something really bad.

He is just upset that Santorum might win. A brokered convention would only mean you will get another RINO other than Mitt.

What it tells me is that the GOP sees Romney as their candidate against us.

They’re more worried about beating us than they are about beating Obama.

That’s pretty damn pathetic.

That picture reminds me of how much Christie can look like Stuart Pankin, who stole 1980’s “The Hollywood Knights” as Dudley Laywicker.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad Christie, and not Corzine, is governor of NJ. Just, that similarity.

The funds raised in these FReepathons go to pay our current quarter expenses. But we're also going to try to replace some of our older servers and failing equipment this year so we're going to add a little extra to our FReepathon goals. John is estimating ten to fifteen thousand to do this and I'd like to get it all in place and working before the election cycle is fully heated up, so we'll try to bring in a little extra now, if we can, and the rest next quarter.

With no offence to Jeb Bush, he would lose 49 states. If we here don’t want yet another Bush, can anyone imagine he would be more popular out there with independants and non committed votors? The best thing Jeb can do is stay out of the race.
