A retired female fighter pilot running for former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' open seat in Congress said Friday that Rick Santorum's recent remarks on women in combat make her want to "go kick him in the jimmy."
Martha McSally, a retired US Air Force colonel and a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, is running in Arizona's congressional special election as a Republican. According to her Facebook page, she was the first American woman to fly in combat since the 1991 lifting of a ban on women in that role.
Appearing Friday morning on FOX News Channel's "FOX & Friends," she called the Republican presidential candidate "completely out of touch" for saying that the "emotions" felt by men seeing a female soldier in harm's way may jeopardize their mission.

No it doesn’t, I have never heard of American male POWs being raped, and I have read an awful lot of books and articles on POWs.
An American POW camp is not a prison like you are thinking of by the way.
You don’t have males losing their minds when females are flying jets, even if they get shot out of the sky or something. This is nothing to do with the ability, worth, or mindset of a female.
It’s well documented that females being harmed in war is an unnecessary distraction to fellow male soldiers.
The last thing you need in combat theatre are distracted male soldiers trying to protect females when there are military objectives that need to be met.
Our women folk should be NOWHERE in harms way ; it speaks very poorly for our country that we send our women out to fight our wars in ANY capacity. It does not lead to sound home or family life either.
We keep seeing this chivalry angle about women in combat. I think it’s a losing argument because it’s mostly hypothetical. I think it’s much better to bring up what is already occuring and that is troops are humping like rabbits. Anytime a women is introduced into an all male unit the dynamic of unit cohesion is changed. Now the men in the unit have to be concerned about everthing they say lest they be charged with sexual harassment and have their careers ended. When the chick has sex with one member of the unit, it creates hostility and jealousy among the other troops. One woman, even at the very bottom of military heirarchy can destroy moral and cohesion of an entire unit.
Yet another anecdote.
Rick can’t find his way out of a paper bag on these issues, and we’re going to put him on the front line? I know, it’s not his fault.
God bless Rick, but the magic talking points can only take him so far.
I suppose it’s only anecdotal but didn’t Sgt Leigh Ann Hester from the Ky NG win a Silver Star for her role in defending a convoy under attack in Iraq.?

And God bless her of course for not losing it on that mission, which sounds like an opportunity almost dished itself out to her, no double entendre entendred. But those Kentucky gals are known to be mean.

Then I remind myself that it’s the Romney Slime Machine. And if they can injure Santorum, then they’ll turn their guns back on Gingrich.
It’s Romney’s MO throughout this primary season, and our side is too busy seeing if a witch floats to take time to think.
LET him be a magnet for something even Israel found out to be true when it finally counted to their survival.
Maybe he’ll look better to the Tea Party when he shows no shame for taking a politically incorrect side in the midst of this sort of controversy.
May the better of Gingrich and Santorum win. If there was no viable challenge to either one of them, they wouldn’t even be running. They’d be walking.

And. Even if she was marvelous on her own missions that says nothing about her wisdom on overall policy which stretches far beyond what she herself did. Maybe in fact she should be allowed to show that she is a bit of a she-ass after all.

I agree with her completely. I am of the wrong generation, brought up to believe it didn’t matter what I was skilled at, not to waste my time with an education. I was just going to be a wife and mother. I have been married 41 years, and have raised a set of twins, boy and girl (who was in the Navy), now 37. I accomplished what my parents wanted for me. And I would not change a thing that would have not allowed me to raise these amazing children of mine.
However, I believe women are capable of a variety of skills much better than men. My own daughter was 5’4”, and could take down of man of 200+ pounds with her boot at his throat in a matter of seconds. Women are much more capable that they are given credit for. Women are farm more organized, in reality and in the mind. Our skills are just as precise, and our thinking can be molded for the reality we are placed in. Santorum has seven children, not much time for his wife to think about anything but being a mother. And just when she thinks the time is right for her to achieve her own accomplishments, she was pregnant with one more child. I am sure Mrs. Santorum is probably a very fine woman, and loves her children dearly, and I admire her a great deal.
The future holds a variety of opportunities for women these days, and I wish I could do it all over again. I would choose the military and now feel, as those in Israel do, that every man and woman should have a moral obligation to complete at least one tour of duty in the military, at whatever they are good at for their country. If there is one thing you can say about those in Israel, they have a love for their country as no other. The military can find the best in each of them, no matter what their limitations might be. It does not take a masculine body to accomplish many of the tasks that are required. I know many men who would have loved to be in the military, but were medically disqualified.
