Contraception Misdirection [Mark Steyn]
National Review ^ | 2/18/2012 | Mark Steyn

I wonder if most folks have the historical knowledge to understand many of Mr Steyn’s references? I doubt it.

But in America an oblivious political class, led by a president who characterizes young motherhood as a “punishment,” prefers to offer solutions to problems that don’t exist rather than the ones that are all too real. I think this is what they call handing out condoms on the Titanic.

"A universal birth-control mandate is a curious priority for a dying republic"

...unless of course one wants to speed up the process.

“If 100 geezers run up a bazillion dollars’ worth of debt, is it likely that 42 youngsters will ever be able to pay it off?”

Does anyone doubt that a fifth column is at work in the United States?

Are the American people really this stupid?

I love the way this guy writes.
Serious, funny, clear, emphatic, smart . . .
The list could go on.

"As the European debt crisis staggers on, these two countries loathe each other ever more nakedly:

"The Greek president brings up his war record against the German bullies, and Athenian commentators warn of the new Fourth Reich."

So the Greeks are going to take on the German bullies at a Plains of Marathon re-stage?

The 21st-century Greeks are up to it?

Maybe this Fourth Reich bit is more a prophesy than a warning.

Maybe the Greeks could get in boats and stick their tongues out at the Germans.

"The Germans, for their part, would rather cut the Greeks loose."

Maybe. No doubt there are some Germans who have...another idea.

And folks wonder why traditional, Christian morality has anything to do with fiscal solvency. How much clearer can the relationship be?

So, now, it becomes clear that Stephanopolous (sp?) was just the scout when he reached into his DNC briefcase and cast out that birth control question at the GOP debate a while back.

It’s a brilliant strategy, really, given our culture’s obsession with sex. And, of course, Steyn describes the approach, in his typical inspired way, by noting the way the stereotype of the sex-starved Republican is being used to hammer home the message that those who oppose the mandate just want to keep everyone else from having sex.

I had been pondering the question of why the Sorosians would pick this fight at this time, and I actually awoke from a sound sleep with the thought that they were trying to change the subject to keep the focus away from the economy.

It’s weird, I know. Apparently my brain was working on this as I slept. I know that I had been dreaming and that Romney and Santorum were both in my dream, but I was learning about them rather than interacting with them. Similar inspirations have occurred to me in this fashion only 2 other times in my life.
