A woman who called in to Levin tonight tipped me off to this speech Newt gave today. He reportedly drew 4,000 people, as many as Santorum did in the same venue. The video runs 67 minutes, with the Speaker starting around 6:30. As usual, he does a superb job, blending his stump speech with new ideas and commentary on recent news. Students asked questions for the last 20 or so minutes. There are many standing ovations, but the biggest concerns a Chevy Volt and a gun rack. Go Newt.
People who attended today are tweeting tonight to say was full crowd, people engaged, energized for Newt.
I watched this all - a stunning speech - but dropped a line to newt.org about one thing he said.
He used the phrase “human capital” - it is a pet peeve of mine, people are not capital, so I suggested he replaces it with citizens in future.
President Newt Gingrich—”Our beloved republic deserves nothing less.”
You know we have 3 supposedly viable candidates: Newt who was the 2nd most powerful person in the country as Speaker of the House. He has the leadership experience and the track record to get things done. He also has laid out specific plans. Then we have Mitt, who does have executive experience and leadership, albeit not the kind we are wanting. Then we have nice guy Rick, who has no executive experience and was Jr Senator for 14 years with no stellar record of running anything! So on what basis does anyone think at this point that Rick, the nice guy, can run this country, given the dire straits we are in? Let him be VP under Newt if need be, but why in the heck would anyone want him in charge during these times.. It would be like on the job training, which in a good economy, might be OK, but not now!
I don’t know about the Gun Rack, but can you fit a Dog Crate on the roof of a Volt?
I completely agree.
Also, with Newt we have a chance at wining against Obama.
Even with Obama’s record, he will make Santorum look like an idiot and Obama will get 4 more years to finish us off.
President Newt Gingrich—”Our beloved republic deserves nothing less.”
Cometh the hour, cometh the man.
Ok. So now we resort to arguing over numbers. Who cares. The only thing that matters is voting day. That is when you can compare the numbers of Newt to Santorum.....Michigan is the next time we will compare those two numbers.
It was excellent.
Near the end (2nd to last question, I believe) a student (pres. of the campus dems) asks him about the “food-stamp” president comment and he gives a wonderful critique of the county’s state of affairs and Obama.
He also answers a question from a student about his “personal” history, and he gives an answer that is soundly applauded.
Gingrich gives a long deconstruct of how Obama is the most dangerous president and the state of our national security.
It is an excellent speech and great Q&A.
It *was* a “full crowd” for the space allowed. A little more than half the auditorium was roped off. It was hard to find a seat without going into the upper seat. There were slightly more seats available in the upper areas than there were with Santorum. That’s all.
“You can’t put a gun rack in Prius or Volt.”
