Your focusing on the wrong subjects with Newt. Examine his record and you will find, without exception, his legislation proposed by him has always benefited the country and by it, you. What makes you uneasy, he sits on a couch with Pelosi. So What. His comments that are being focused on such as right wing extremist and global warming have quite a bit of truth to them if you pay attention to what he says. If Sheldon Adelman is willing to give him $100M, why should we be concerned about Newt. He is the only sensible conservative in the race.
I thought Romney had already announced that he’s not attending any more debates?
You know as well as I that the "social issues" approach is very effective in the South - regardless of other factors. I'm not sure Newt has much room left to maneuver. I do wish him well, though.
If you listened to Rush’s full comments, he’s really saying he doesn’t know who’s going to get the nomination or whether there will be a brokered convention. He’s really saying “anything is possible” after watching the way the contest has gone so far.

You give to much credit to someone with money. Because Mr. Adelman has a lot of money, I should credit him with being wiser than me? Mr. Adelman is clearly better at running casinos than I am. Michael Moore has more money than me, and he’s an idiot.
It’s more than the couch incident. It’s Gingrich’s ability to just come out of left field... calling Ryan’s budget proposal right wing social engineering. Or his flirtations with amnesty.
Having said that, I still think Gingrich is the best available choice.
Then I guess the whole Obama HHS religious freedom thing with the Catholic Church never happened? That is a HUGE social issue that is now the lead vs. jobs right now. The GOP hasn't made jobs, the economy or gas prices for that matter the enormous issue it needs to be. They are failing miserably with a total marxist/tyrant in office.
We have lots of bickering; we have lots of arguments about this and that. We have virtually no discussion of what does it really take to take the most complicated society in the world, the largest economy in the world, and move it back to being the most successful, most prosperous, safest and freest country in the world.
So I am going to try this afternoon to set the stage for that.
And we have tons of details at Newt.org — any of you want, to just go to my first name dot org. You will see an immense amount of material.
But the standard here is that solutions big enough to get America working again — and the principle is to unleash the American people to rebuild the America we love.
Let me start with jobs: If I am the nominee, with your help, I will ask the entire Republican ticket to campaign with me on the pledge that when the Congress comes in on January 3, it will stay in session, and by January 20, when I am sworn in, it will have repealed Obamacare.
(Applause).
GINGRICH: It will have repealed Dodd-Frank.

GINGRICH: It will have repealed Sarbanes-Oxley.
(Applause).
GINGRICH: All three of those are job killing bills, which centralized bureaucracy in Washington DC and increased the corruption of the political system. All three should be repealed and held at the desk until I am sworn in. That afternoon, on the very first day, we should sign the repeal of all three. That's a reasonable start.

GINGRICH: Two hours after the Inaugural Address — that was just the hors d’oeurve. We haven't got around to serious work, yet.
After the Inaugural Address, I will spend it signing executive orders and presidential findings. All of them will have been published by October 1. The country will know precisely what this campaign is about.
The very first executive order will abolish all of the White House czars, as of that moment.

GINGRICH: We will sign, that day, an executive order, which as of that moment, approves of the Canadian pipeline to Houston, period.

GINGRICH: My message to Prime Minister Harper and the Canadian government is simple: You do not need a partnership with the Chinese. Give the American people a few months. When we beat Obama on election night, you can start buying equipment because we will approve it on January 20th.

GINGRICH: There will be an executive order to move the State Department, to put the embassy in Jerusalem as of that day, period.
(Applause).
GINGRICH: We will, that day, reinstate Ronald Reagan's “Mexico City Policy” — No money for abortion overseas, period.

GINGRICH: And we will have an executive order to repeal every act of religious bigotry by the Obama administration period.
My goal, with your help, is that by the time President Obama lands in Chicago, we will have repudiated at least 40 percent of his government on the opening-day.

he praised Ryan’s work on several occasions, and then cut Ryan off at the knees with that statement in an interview. It pissed me off. Fortunately he did backtrack. Overall, Newt is supportive of Ryan as a forward thinking leader, much as he himself was in the 80s and 90s. That interview, much like the ‘end of the Reagan era’ and the NY-23 endorsement are major blackmarks on Newt’s recent record. He certainly has a lot of pros and cons.
Let’s put it this way, Newt can be too nuanced for the mental midgets of all political stripes to understand. Because Newt doesn’t give flat yes or no answers to everything, but carefully analyzes all the pros and cons (view his answer about SOPA in the debates to see him do it in real time), it does seem to give his dishonest opponents the opportunity to take parts of his nuanced answers out of context and misrepresent what he’s said. For example on TARP, YouTube has a quote of him shredding it to pieces before it was passed, saying it was a terrible idea, but he did say while he would have done a completely different plan, he would have voted for it if it was handed to him as the only option available, because something had to be done. To his Machiavellian opponents it becomes easy to take one part of that out of context to make the intellectual gnats out there think whatever they want them to think.
Not that out-of-context quotes aren’t used against Santorum or Romney too, but in their cases it’s because they really make confusing statements that make it difficult for even intelligent people to understand what they’re saying without doing some guesswork.
You're right. The headline doesn't match the direct quotes from Rush. I listened to his show yesterday, and NewsMax has grossly mischaracterized what Rush said. He said it appears that Romney might be regaining ground in MI, for one. And, he said IF Romney should fail in MI, there is a possibility that Newt could reemerge.
Rush said that towards the end of the show, after spending a whole lot of air time the previous two hours singing the praises of Santorum and not mentioning Newt even once.
I say this as a committed supporter of Newt Gingrich, and it brings me no joy. For whatever reasons, Rush isn't fond of Newt Gingrich, though he definitely prefers him to Romney. On the other hand, Rush likes Santorum as a candidate quite a lot.
NewsMax paid for a rigged poll from Insider Advantage showing the Florida primary was close, with accompanying story from the pollster saying things were "breaking hard" to Newt, so they're definitely in the tank for Newt (or in the tank for pumping up hits to their website).
Interestingly, an Insider Advantage poll from today (paid for by Fox 5 Atlanta, not Newsmax) shows Romney only 2 points behind, and Santorum only 3 points behind, Gingrich in Georgia (who only has 26%).
Why would anyone want the understudy (Santorum) when they can have the master (Gingrich)?

WHat were they thinking, yes it might help them get the nomination and together they keep Newt out of this but they are hardly helping themselves if they want to face obama
Santorum’s currently killing in Texas...45% to 48% combined for everyone else. My guess is the real reason for Santorum’s momentum is all those evangelical endorsements he got. It seems like the “information underclass,” which probably includes a lot of old people who are probably the majority of primary voters, takes about 2 weeks to find out the information that we internet people hear about in 2 seconds and have forgotten about by the time they hear about it. I get the feeling they hear about all this news only when they’re mingling around the church on Sundays. So, I agree I see it hard for Newt to find a game-changer especially with only one debate scheduled on Feb. 22nd and the next tentative one on March 19th. I think Newt would need that $100 million from Sheldon and need to put together a prime time infomercial of some sort.

A new University of Texas/Texas Tribune poll released Monday indicates that Rick Santorum’s support among Texas Republicans is almost equal to the combined support of his three leading rivals in the GOP primary.
Santorum was favored by 45 percent of respondents. Newt Gingrich came in second with 18 percent, followed by Mitt Romney at 16 percent and Rep. Ron Paul at 14 percent.
The survey was conducted online Feb. 8-15. The presidential preference portion of the poll had a margin of error of 5.1 percentage points.
The results suggest a major reshuffling of the race in Texas in light of Gov. Rick Perry’s exit and Santorum’s recent nationwide surge. Last month, a poll of Texas GOP primary voters from Public Policy Polling found Romney leading with 24 percent support, followed by Gingrich, 23 percent; Perry, 18 percent; Santorum, 15 percent; and Paul, 12 percent.
