Twenty-two passengers on Carnival Splendor were robbed at gunpoint Thursday while on a ship-sponsored tour in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

At least one Mexican media outlet said the passengers were returning by bus to their ship at approximately 5 p.m. after spending time in El Nogalito, a tourist area known for its lush natural setting. Masked assailants stopped the bus and robbed the cruisers of their money, watches, cameras and other valuables.

We spent a week at Huatulco, way south on the Pacific side, when it was a brand new place. Two hotels; ours and a Club Med. It was literally cut right out of the jungle.
There wasn't much to do so we asked the hotel travel agent for some tips. He arranged for a DC-3 trip (Air Liberdad) from Huatulco to Oaxaca where we stayed for three or four days.
We just missed the Oaxaca radish festival...

Well....hell! The tour guide said that they would experience the wonders of Mexico....and they did.

You may think this story represents a new low in the cruise biz, but a similar incident happened last year in the Caribbean. I don’t recall which cruise line it was.

Mexico is a toilet.

Recognize it as such and dealing with it is simplified.

I am glad that I have traveled over as much of Mexico as I have, because there won’t be any more!

6:00 Get robbed by desperados

Gee. And I remember being on a tour bus in London many years ago where we were delivered like lambs to the slaughter. It stopped at someplace where a Coke cost the equivalent of $3.75. (This was back in 1975, when I'm guessing it would have been hard to pay even a dollar for a Coke in NYC.)

Ouch! That will put a damper on cruises to Mexico. I think we won’t go there again.

“I wonder what the bus driver’s cut was?”

Often it’s getting back his 8 year old son, still with 10 fingers. A typical God-fearing bus driver that could even make Mother Teresa look like the devil herself often gets forced into no-win situations.

Obviously I have no idea what the true story is, but the bottom-line is that Mexico is a very nasty place now

Look at the smaller islands instead, Nassau actually sucks imo.
We have stayed on several of the smaller islands, Green Turtle Cay was my fave. 3 mile island, everyone knows everyone, no locks on the doors, get around via golf cart.
We have actually looked at buying property there.

How do you get to the comments? I went to the site and it said there were 454 comments but I couldn’t figure out how to get to them.

It’s only in these last few years have I come to truly despise the Mexican people. I despise their pugnacious arrogance in thinking they’re above our laws, their hypocrisy in calling our immigration laws ‘’inhumane’’ while Mexico’s immigration laws are draconian to say the least. I despise them for their criminality which they bring here and for their criminal sloth for destroying the land God gave them ( the richest in Latin America, btw) and their refusal to fix it. Suffice to say I despise Mexicans. As I’ve said here many times, if the Mexican people would put just half the energy into fixing their country as they do into destroying ours Mexico might someday actually become a functioning state.

I had the same problem. Then I looked at the top where it shows the number of comments and there’s a link next to it that says “comments below” or something like that. Click on that link and it takes you to the comments.

At least that worked for me. Not really intuitive, like most of msn/msnbc.

Yes, great comments at the source. Americans are getting tired of this.
