Mitt Romney has opened up a double-digit lead nationally over the rest of the GOP field, according to two polls released on Thursday.
Romney took 40 percent of the support in a survey from conservative polling outlet Rasmussen, followed by Rick Santorum at 24 percent, Newt Gingrich at 16 percent and Ron Paul at 12 percent.
Thats Romneys biggest lead to date, according to Rasmussen, and the highest percentage any candidate has received so far. The previous high had been Santorum two weeks ago, when he led Romney 39 percent to 27 percent.

Republicans are sick of Santorum’s obsession with birth control.
Just wait until Super Tuesday. Romney isn’t going to do well. He only tied Santorum in his home state. After next Tuesday, Santorum will BW on front.
I do not like Mittens on the sheet.
I think his brains are concrete.
I will not vote for him, hes left and right
Mainly because hes just not bright.
I will not vote for the vapid hack
I do not care if hes got a Cadillac.
No fan I am of that RINO pile
Hell change three times if you wait a while.
If I want someone without merit,
Ill simply vote for the Muslim ferret.
He’s shot both feet off. He needs to get out and endorse Newt while Mittens can still be stopped.
Romney’s high water mark after Mich and AZ. You’ll see it start to erode soon.
Santorum down 15 percent in 2 weeks. The Santorum experiment has failed.
It is time to return to the most conservative candidate in the race, Newt Gingrich.
I totally agree. Time to either get out or find a way to join forces with Newt. There are things I like about Rick but he seems a tad thin-skinned, and he is incapable of redirecting questions back to the economy. It’s as if he enjoys talking about his social positions without realizing that his social positions have NOW become THE issue for his candidacy. Unfortunately the social issues ARE NOT the critical issues facing our economy.
We like Rick, he’s a nice guy, we support his social positions, BUT he just doesn’t seem ready to be President. I still think Newt can do it. Super Tuesday may very well determine who will...who can...go on.
NOT going to vote for the GOP ticket if
backstabbing, ineligible ROMNEY(CARE) leads
the ticket.
The GOP is reprehensible to have not thrown out
Romney for what he did in 2008.
None of the candidates has been able to surpass the 37 percent mark nationally. Gingrich and Romney have each been there twice, while Santorum topped out last week at 36 percent.
Yes, Santorum can’t help himself, he always takes the bait when they give him an issue of personal morality to opine upon.
I’m sick of VU4G10’s obsession with Romney. Anyone who thinks Mr. “I will not attack Obama” can win is a fool.
BTW, FR is timing out for me again-—anyone else having problems?
I would rather vote for Newt, but Rick is someone I could/would vote for if Newt doesn’t get it.
I can’t say the same of Mitt or Ron. I just don’t like those two.
Not surprising. The herd is going back to the safe bet. Romney will lose in the end. With huge advantages in money and organization he still can’t put it away. He’s a poor candidate. If Romney gets this momentum into super Tuesday, he’ll probably lock the nomination, though. I guess our only consolation is that we will once again get to say “I told you so” to the R establishment in November. Then if the country is still here 4 years from now, Romney can endorsement the next establishment candidate, and we can watch him fail. Life goes on.
So you want to vote for Barry Soros? Quit the whining noob.
Santorum has flamed out. Newt will be back but it may be too late.
How is it that when everybody else brings up the subject, it's Santorum's obsession? He's not out there pounding the subject relentlessly, or do you have evidence to the contrary?
It is called momentum generated by winning Michigan and Arizona, coupled with positive media coverage.
Santorum has lost some, and Newt hasn’t gained much.
And nobody is going to drop out before Super Tuesday.
I’ll call you on your love for that abortion-loving, sodomite-pandering loathsome liberal every chance I get. Understood?
