The real pity is that with his big spending and statist ways, neither is Santorum. If you believe there is a moral component to conservatism, the serial infidelity of Gingrich excludes him as well. And if you believe a conservative needs a grown-up world view for foreign policy, Dr. Paul is out also.

The real pity is that there is no conservative in the race. It is a pity.

And the dissapointments just keep on coming. McDonnell, Brewer and now this. I read “Ted, White and Blue”. You’d never suspect this endorsement after reading that.

Newt Gingrich had an epiphany. He had to, or he would have self-destructed.

As a small child he witnessed his father beating and abusing Newt’s mother. She divorced him, remarried, and Newt was adopted by his step dad. Later he was sexually molested by a high school teacher. Yeah, the first wife he married because she became pregnant. He felt obligated. She asked for the divorce, not him.

This man was carrying a troubled emotional burden while serving in Congress but he sought counseling, joined AA and eventually turned his life around after a religious conversion.

What I’ve found shocking is the enormous number of so-called Christians here at Free Republic who are nothing of the sort.

Christians are not better than other people. They forgive others, ask forgiveness for themselves, and try to lead a better life by not sinning further. I’m not disgusted with Newt Gingrich, who I believe has honestly changed his life. I’m disgusted with the bigots who claim they are Christian but do not put it into daily practice.

The wild card is Gingrich.

He may be the radical, history making, right wing magician of old.

We know that Newt is one wild SOB, who knows how to shake up worlds, and is a (to quote Cool Hand Luke) “Natural Born World Shaker”.

No. It is well known that Gingrich had a religious conversion.

Though I myself seem immune to such things, I never doubt when others describe such peraonal events.

P.S.: I too, have committed a crime - after my mother died, I spread her ashes along the Oregon seashore per her wishes. Oh, well...

And a point to consider.

Although, Newt has been married four times, he was faithful with the marriage. I’m not aware of him actually having any extra-marital affairs, while actually married. Any extra-marital affairs that he did have, was when he was separated.

That tells me that he was honouring his marriage commitment as he understood it to be. He wasn’t intending to disregard marriage itself.

Waco-area resident and rock star Ted Nugent announced today on Twitter that he was endorsing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s bid for the GOP presidential nomination. But he said things would be different if Texas Gov. Rick Perry had run a different campaign.

“If the real Rick Perry had been at those debates, he would still be in the race,” Nugent told the Tribune Friday. “It is my firm belief that Rick Perry would have [made] and would make the best president we could choose.”

Ted made a mistake... I disagree with him... which is rare. He will live to regret this decision... when mitt bans all semi autos... and I will remind Uncle Ted of his BIG ASSED MISTAKE!

Well said.

Newt is a courageous realist - he entered the arena in order to offer solutions - knowing full well that he would be assaulted and criticized by the media, former colleagues, brutal negative ads and a bitter ex-wife.

He is absorbing the pummeling and pushinf forward - still positive, still maintaining his brilliant proposals for saving this great nation from the corruption we are enduring.

I’ve said this before. People will endorse Romney because they perceive him as the frontrunner. They don’t want to be seen as backing a loser. And I’m sure there are more than a few who expect some position in Romney’s administration if he wins. Not sure what position Ted might expect. Interior Secretary maybe??. LOL

Small point: In some faiths, being separated means you are still married.
Personally, I don’t really care about his affairs and divorces. I’m more interested in what kind of leader he will be. And frankly, I don’t see real leadership in any of the four wannabes.

Talking about intentions and solutions are just words. Any fool (or, better yet, anyone can fool most) can tell people what they want to hear; that’s standard politics. A track record of sound, conservative action is what matters.

Maybe some of the second-hand dope smoke Ted might have been exposed to has taken its toll.

I agree with that point, but since those who criticize Gingrich are basically only hitting him on that one point, and only on that one point, it’s not that small of a point to them.

We may not have any ideal candidates, but I think he’s the only candidate that can do what is needed in the near future.

IMO the first thing to do when you find yourself in a hole is to stop digging. It appears Santorum or Newt don’t have a chance. Ron Paul appears to be angling for Mittens VP slot.

The establishment has deemed Mittens to be the “one”. Its a hellava hole we are in.
