NewsCore) - President Barack Obama's re-election campaign strategist David Axelrod hit back Sunday at Newt Gingrich's ongoing criticism of the president for a rash of violence in Afghanistan, calling the Republican candidate's comments "irresponsible."

Six US troops were killed in three separate incidents after the burning of Korans at a US airbase in Afghanistan late last month sparked violent protests across the war-torn country.

Both Obama and the top US commander in Afghanistan, Marine Gen. John R. Allen, apologized for the unintentional insult in an effort to calm the hostility.

In campaign appearances since the incident, former House speaker Newt Gingrich has seized on Obama's apology to criticize the president for showing weakness and failing to defend US troops. During interviews on Sunday, he continued to hammer Obama for his handling of the crisis.

"I don't believe that the president saved lives by what he did," he said on CNN's "State of the Union." "I believe the president set a terrible precedent of a commander in chief not standing up for American troops."

"Frankly, if the Afghans don't want us there we don't need to be there," Gingrich added. "But the idea that we are apologizing while religious fanatics kill young Americans, I think is reprehensible and I think the average American thinks it's just profoundly wrong."

Axelrod fired back that Gingrich's comments were "irresponsible" during an interview on ABC's "This Week."

"You know, the thing about not having any responsibilities is that you can say irresponsible things. And the speaker avails himself of that opportunity all the time," Axelrod said.

"But the reality is, that the president has in his hands the fate of all those service people over there, and that's foremost in his mind," he added. "And the commanders on the ground felt that a high-level apology..

Newt had Candy Crowley practically coming out of her seat to defend Obama when Newt struck gold.

As I NEVER watch CNN, I didn't know who that Barack-supporting-Liberal-FAT-ASSED BITCH Jour-No-List was, but I agree, she went balistic and was about to lift off her seat (though it would probably take one of our old Titans to do the job) coming to Dear Leader's defense.

Can't help but wonder if these lib moonbat zombies (posing as objective reporters) realize how transparent they are?

Probably not.

Rush says the truth about Miss. Fluke and he loses seven advertisers, so far.
Obama grovels before the Muslim Afghans, causing seven deaths so far, and nothing happens to his support so far.

In Muslims culture, apologies may be taken as a sign of weakness and the groveler should be humiliated. The Messiah mightingly contributed to the deaths of the soldiers and U.S. personnel and Newt is blamed for mentioning this truth, also?

Our society is really sick.

Truth is the new hate speech.

It has always been obvious that the candidate most feared by the DNC is Newt. How are things looking in Oklahoma?

I don’t trust the polls since everyone I talk to here is voting for Newt and the polls don’t reflect that.

“Axelrod fired back that Gingrich’s comments were “irresponsible” during an interview on ABC’s “This Week.””

In other words, Axelhead had polling results showing Newt’s statements were hurting Barry.

Keep punching, Newt.

The media did the same in Tennessee until crunch time. Now the support for Newt is finally coming out. Keep the Faith!
