And so you end up canceling the order in disgust when the discount does not show up in the balance they ask you to approve to charge on your card — sounds like they set up to punish themselves.

All flower-wiring companies have contracts with a nationwide network of florists. They do not ship flowers for long distances. Whoever the local florist was, is the one who boxed it poorly and it would not have mattered whether you had used FTD, Amlings, or Pro Flowers to order the same thing.

THat is true, and it is a lottery as to which florist is going to handle your order. When you go into susie’s Flowers and ask them to send an order 3 states away, you have no way of knowing which florist in the new town will actually fulfill that order. They go through a rotation.

A friend of mine got Mothers’ Day flowers from her daughter. They must have had a lot of orders that weekend because it turned out that the flowers were a half dead pot of chrysanthemums wrapped in black foil with a black ribbon. My friend was furious and complained bitterly. she got new flowers the following week, but not before everyone in earshot knew about the gaffe.

If you send lowers always check to see if they were received. I’ve had them put the flowers in my (unused) barn when I wasn’t home. Of course, those flowers were dead before I ever saw them. Another time they delivered flowers here and I wasn’t home. They took them away and left a note. I called the florist. They brought the flowers back, but it was obvious that the centerpiece bloom had been removed — probably because it was dead. There was a big hole where it should have been.
