Don't Rush To Write Off Limbaugh, Analysts Say [Comments "Should Be Condemned by Everyone"-McCain]

Don't Rush To Write Off Limbaugh, Analysts Say He's lost 11 advertisers since using crude language to describe a student for her views on birth control, but analysts say his huge audience should allow him to thrive.

Analysts say the size of radio commentator Rush Limbaugh's audience should allow him to continue to thrive despite a loss of advertisers over his crude comments about a female student's views on birth control. By James Rainey and Matea Gold

March 5, 2012 — A new week greeted Rush Limbaugh with four more advertiser defections, for a total of 11, along with a sharp rebuke from former Republican presidential nominee John McCain. Peter Gabriel asked that his song "Sledgehammer" no longer be used on Limbaugh's radio program.

Even after Limbaugh issued a rare apology, the furor that had erupted when the conservative radio host called an activist law student a "slut" and a "prostitute" showed no sign of abating Monday.

But a backlash that might be a career-breaker for some commentators seemed unlikely to dent Limbaugh's considerable stature among his 15 million weekly listeners and conservative leaders.

The criticism delivered by most Republican officeholders was muted. One political action committee stepped up to buy even more advertising on his program. All of which suggested that "The Rush Limbaugh Show" might be too big to fail.

The controversy began last week, when the radio host addressed President Obama's proposal that health insurance provide free birth control. Georgetown University student Sandra Fluke spoke at a congressional hearing in favor of that idea, only to be attacked by Limbaugh.

He described the 30-year-old as one of a group of "feminazis" who effectively wanted government to subsidize their sexual activity, and he demanded, "We want you to post the [sex] videos online so we can all watch."

Where was McCain when people were saying the same of his VP candidate?

The women of this country can see through this female fake up there in Washington. Why do I have to work to pay for her birth control and out of control appetites?

I wish that were true but it’s not

“McCain isn’t so much an idiot as a loser”

MSM loves the guy.

McCain is jealous that Fluke has upstaged pathetic Megan.

Well Rush claims that he has advertisers by the dozens waiting in the wings, just begging to get on his show. I guess we will find out if that is true or if it’s just bravado.

Limbaugh deserves kudos for getting people to reveal themselves.

Take Don Imus.. please!

Imus blasted Rush for "vile, repulsive name-calling" -- this from Drug-addled Don Imus who calls Gingrich "Skunk Vomit" and calls Santorum "Butt Pus".

Drug-addled Don even had his audience vote on the name for Santorum. I know that childish name-calling is his schtick.. but he ain't kidding here. Why the arrogance? Professinal jealousy? Has to be. Rush does his show solo.. Imus needs a talented staff to share on-air time and to remain on air -- and that's a fact.

To be fair.. this morning just seconds ago Imus finally! acknowledged the FACT that his liberal friends like Matt Taibbi can get away with doing the exact same thing for which Rush is being vilified.

(I know that Imus says he no longer does drugs.. but I believe that unlike alcohol traces of drugs can remain in the body longer after they are consumed.)

Probably so. But what is true is that the "independent" women in this country also have an attention span shorter than your average hour of Oprah. Once the next big celebrity scandal hits, they will move on and nobody will remember this in a month, let alone eight months from now on election day.

Agree on Hank Williams, Jr.

Disagree on Ted Nugent, the Romney-bot.

Yeah, they luv him ‘cause he’s their puppet. They wrote puff pieces on him and helped get him nominated in 2008. Then they turned on him like a bad penny in the General Election. In short, he was groomed by the MSM to lose to whoever the Democratic candidate was.

Exactly. With Zero, it is total nihilism. We cannot be anything or have any voice, because he has decided he would not need any himself but repeat the teleprompter.

He does not understand why we hate his death “lifestyle”, much like that perv. homosexual muslim who would harass soldiers downrange and demand them why they could not put up with a gay boyfriend.

It is one thing to be mafya and protect your interests selfishly, but to be a “McLaim” who tolerates the View’s right to call each other slut (nly because they can as priviledged of free speech we apparently are not allowed now), it is a whole other ball game when one embraces the “be nothing” mantra of total losers.

Ms. Fluke is just as mine as she would be theirs, and if I call her slut, I can, not them, is the way I see it. I pay my gosh darn taxes, dang it.

I agree that it’s time for a change. Time for something more Patriotic before it becomes ‘my USA is gone’

Some variety would be good. As I mentioned the John Phillip Sousa marches would be soul stirring music. Can you imagine how our pride in America would rise while tuning into Rush Limbaugh and he opens his program with this, this or this?

Amen and thanks!

Disagree on Ted Nugent, the Romney-bot.

You're right of course. That was a hugh mistake on my part -- Nugent is out. I think Chuck Norris, a good Christian Conservative who supports Newt Gingrich can come up with an opening for Rush Limbaugh. He did a superb job with the Walker Texas Ranger theme, which remains one of my favorite television programs (and I'd sure like to see it revived).

I posted this recently:

The irony is we don’t what her sexual behavior is about. She could be asexual. We do know, however, as an activist, she voluntarily portrayed herself as parasitic slut. That was her choice.

You're right, common sense should prevail, but I suspect the theatrics may handicap the sobriety Liberty requires.

Ultimately, I'm not sure Rush overplayed his hand. Given the gravity of what's at stake, the exposure given to Fluke's scarlet activism may eventually prove true.
