Sen. Lisa Murkowski says she saw it coming, even before the public scolding last weekend at Alaska's Iditarod dog sled race. Siding with Republican leaders on a contentious contraceptives vote was a mistake.
A moderate in an era of paralyzing partisanship, Murkowski, 54, may be a natural heir to the centrist role played by retiring Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe at a time when their party is hurting for female leaders.
Murkowski voted in favor of an amendment by Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., to overturn President Barack Obama's order that health insurance cover the cost of contraceptives even if providers object on religious grounds. She was backpedaling within days.
Before the weekend was out, Murkowski told the Anchorage Daily News that she regretted her vote.
"I knew going into it that there was conflict there," Murkowski said in a telephone interview this past week. When she got home to Alaska, she knew. "I think I made a mistake."

So yet another American woman puts the joy of promiscuity above the Constitution. What’s new?
By a weird coincidence, the GOP regrets...
Thanks Oldeconomybuyer.
I regret that Alaska allows a write-in candidate after the filing deadline has passed.
She was. Then she cheated.
This idiot author speaks of partisanship as though it’s a bad thing. The irony is that she describes partisanship as “paralyzing,” which is exactly the desired result of partisanship. If Congress is paralyzed, doing absolutely nothing, our rights and wallets are somewhat safe, for the time being at least.
So, in a backward and upside-down way, she makes the point for partisanship, without intending to.
She was defeated but specials rules1!!!!!1 we had to defeat her twice. Where’s a damn sore loser law when you need one.
I’ll take her organizational vote for now but we gotta take her down for good next time. After going outside the party and having her already lousy voting record get even worse she has no place as a Republican, she’s as bad as Snowe and Collins, way to make Kirk and Brown look like gold. I were a fellow Senator I’d “accidently” put gum in her hair.
What sickening congressional delegation from Alaska, to think that old hack Don “Young” is by far the best one. And their state Senate, tied, but even before that ruled by a unconscionable Rat/RINO coalition. It’s a three party state. Someone needs to take out the trash.
yep
A button with her face on it, worm around the croth area would make an excellent (and cost effective) birth control device.
Forget the gum, I’d throw a used baby wipe at her face.
Further proof that Sarah Palin was too good for Alaska.
