So if we are recommending movies about the subject, let me recommend the 1940 release 'Arizona' (with Jean Arthur and a very young and almost unrecognizable Bill Holden!). The film was nominated for two Academy Awards and this was when the Oscars meant something.

While not completely on subject there is a good portion of the movie which covers the Confederacy's attempt to seize the Southwest. Where for the most part the Confederacy was very un-welcome in the New Mexico Territory the Arizona Territory was much more pro-Confederacy.

Also in the storyline Jean Arthur character Phoebe Titus makes the start of her fortune by baking pies. There wasn't a lot of sweets available on the frontier and many a living and a fortune was made by those who could bake pies or cook up a batch of 'Bear Sign' (Donuts). Something to think about should the SHTF.

I recently DVR'd the movie and am burning a copy for my Dad a big western fan (and in this the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

I never heard of “Arizona,” I’ll look for it.
