A US soldier has killed 16 Afghan civilians, including nine children, after entering their homes in Kandahar. Sky sources said the Afghan victims also included women and elderly men.
Minister of Border and Tribal Affairs Asadullah Khalid, who is investigating the incident, said the soldier entered three homes, killing 11 people in the first one.
The Nato-led International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) coalition confirmed the incident but did not release the number of killed or injured.
Sky defence reporter Mark Stone said: "Details are still sketchy and various death tolls have emerged.
"It appears to be an isolated incident and the soldier is believed to have been a staff sergeant."
Isaf Deputy Commander Lt Gen Adrian Bradshaw said: "I wish to convey my profound regrets and dismay at the actions apparently taken by one coalition member in Kandahar province.
"I cannot explain the motivation behind such callous acts, but they were in no way part of authorised ISAF military activity."
According to the Panjwai district governor office, seven people died and up to 17 injured were injured in the rampage.
The injured have been treated for their wounds at Nato medical facilities.
Protests were held over the Koran-burning incident
The US embassy in Kabul attempted to quell expected Afghan unrest by also issuing an apology.

I read the Daily Mail article on this, and based on that, it sounds like he snapped. It was just one soldier, right? If it was a mission to get a terrorist, multiple soldiers would have been there. The article said he went back to the base after and turned himself in.
This really is terrible. Nine children and three women lost their lives in addition to three men. I think we can surmise that at least the women and children were innocent, probably the men too. One man lost his entire family. He was gone and came back to all eleven of his family members dead. That’s horrific. I just can’t fathom it.
The whole goal of this nation building is to get the locals to trust us, and things like this do not help at all. I forsee protests at least as bad, if not worse, than the Koran burnings. The Taliban has already declared they will avenge, and angry locals could get behind them. With attitudes over there, they could very well take it out on the U.S. military as a whole instead of realizing that it was one soldier gone rogue.

Most Americans no longer trust their own government, which has been looted and bankrupt, lawless violent chaos at it's own borders, yet were 9,000 miles away spending hundreds of billions, spilling our blood, hoping to gain the trust of some Muslim foreigners?

Bottom line is that it's not our style, but probably worked pretty well for Muslims who were trying to impress upon infidels that rebellion/resistance meant physical extermination of family members back when the Islamic hordes were running wild through the Roman-ruled (and Christian) Mid East and North Africa as well as pre-Islamic Persia.
I tend to agree with you. I have to tell you all that the current administration has cut American troops, and placed contrators on our bases. There are “contractors” from Uganda doing the base security on some of the bases...and contractors from all over the world.
What would it take for a good muslim from Africa to sacrifice himself in an effort to smear the American military and advance the cause of Islam? This act will get more Americans killed than an IED will, these days.

You can’t decide that your ok with Afghans killing men under your command,as part of the cost doing business,there should have been incentives for the soldiers to believe their officers were willing to make sure they were protected and their buddies’s killers “taken care of”.
Of course this was Barry’s fault as every time something went wrong during Bush’s term it was his.

I said to my active duty relative for first time that we need to get out because we don’t have the political will to handle this situation. He did say that until we have generals wiling to turn in their stars rather than follow the PC White House line, this nightmare for our troops will continue.
Anyone experienced in this area knows that groveling and compromise are a sign of weakness in Muslim culture. Yet the US does it over and over again, without seeming to understand the difference between saying this was not our intention and groveling and bashing the US, as Hillary so frequently does. They don’t apologize to us.
Someone has got to value the lives of our military over their own career, but I don’t see it. I just see the Wounded Warrior commercials. Maybe for some years the military kept the jihadis from coming back over here, but that goal is no longer worth the price we are paying. Including the price to be paid by the sgt who if the report is correct finally lost it this morning.

NATO liaisons when they are shot in the head at their desks and US military when they kill Afghans, perhaps in response. So very true.
Nope. After we pull out they should be dead to us. They get nothing. No aid,no cash, no food,no nothing. If there was a way to stop TV and radio waves from being able to be picked up there I would do that too.No Visas would be granted and anyone stupid enough to go there would be arrested upon their return.
