An Internet friend responded to my recent email re. Romney's past tilts to portside by observing that we have no choice but to support him if he is the nominee. While I want Obozo to go away ASAP, as of this writing, it's not looking all that good.

My somewhat expanded reply follows.

The Obama smear machine will tear Romney to shreds. Here's the narrative:

MR's past and current positions are similar/identical to mine. You gonna vote for a rich, white pubbie over the first black president? A rich, white pubbie who was born with a mouth full of silver spoons who makes snap bets for 10K on TV and tells unemployed workers that his wife drives "...several Cadillacs..."? You gonna vote to send me away after I hiked your welfare benes? (Almost 50% of Americans are receiving those benes.) And the Dem's will make sure ALL those supporters will get to the polls and, along with millions of illegals and the departed, vote early and often. (It's the Chicago Way.)

And because the choice is between Obozo and Obozo lite, a lot of the less committed and uninformed otherwise conservative voters may sit it out.

We need a clear CHOICE. We don't need the establishment GOP favorite shoved down our throats by the same Beltway jerks who, according to Palin, REFUSED to allow her to expose Obozo's marxist past in '08. That situation is but more evidence of the truth of some gallows humor popular with fellow cynics that the Dems want socialism NOW while the pubbies are content to wait a few days. The bad news from '08 is that the GOP establishment has become impatient.

With the MSM covering for Obozo again and the bulk of the electorate either ignorant of or supporting the dismantling of this nation, we've got trouble right here in River City.

I'm not sure this fight can be won -- or even worth the effort. It now seems that fight will almost certainly move to a new and more "kinetic" level. This WILL get ugly.

All that said, I and many of those I know will NOT allow these treasonous criminals to steal the birthright so many others died to defend.

I guess we'll see you at the polls. If that fails, it's on to the barricades (figurative or literal) to carry on the fight the other side started.

There are a lot of people who are in unions who are conservative. You only hear about the big mouth ones on the left. My parents, my 2 uncles and an aunt all are union, but they only vote republican. They are tired of the union taking there dues and giving it to democrats. My grandfather was beaten by some union thugs, but no one would testify against the guys who did it. Everyone said they did not see anything, they were scared. He was in the hospital for over a week and was never the same. About 40-45% of the people in unions are republicans. If we don't get these union people who are republican, we lose. Don't believe the lies that all the union people will go with obama. My dad was thrown out of a meeting because he was yelling about the dues and he was told never to come back. He had more than half the people cheering him.

And we can’t forget the importance of having a republican, even a RINO, in office when a vacancy occurs on the SCOTUS.

Your old tired promises just don’t bear inspection. Romney appointed virtually all liberals to the courts in Massachusetts. Most of them were Democrats. Some were radical left-wing activists.

Not only will I ever vote for Romney, but I’m tired of the GOP “fixing” elections for who “they” think we should vote. The cheating and lying by the romney campaign, with the assistance of the gop, the media on the right, and unnamed powerful people, has shown me they are as corrupt as the democrats. IF romney wins, there WILL BE a third party candidate. I would never have considered that before, but because of the tatics used to force romney on us, we better start considering who we will end up with in 2016. I have no doubt that romney will lose against obama. Any third grader could show the hypocrisy of who he really is. If we do as we are “told” and vote for THEIR politican we are saying, keep lying and cheating, I'll do what I am told like a good republican. We will NEVER again have a choice in a nominee. They did this with mccain and now romney. They are stealing our vote, no different than when people vote for the dead. If we give them what they want they will know there schemes have worked and will continue to use them until we stop it.

The GOP have taken our right to vote and corrupted it. If I vote for romney, then I am just like democrat voters who live on the plantation. Why should I stay with a party who uses me? I won’t if romney wins.

Mass is not the US Congress. Different animal completely. Mittens will not have much influence over the congress, especially a congress dominated by republicans voted in by republican and conservative voters. The congress WILL have influence over mittens. The presidential election has long coat-tails when it comes to helping others get elected.

But if you choose to stand by and allow the Zero to get another term. . take your ball (vote) and go home.

Me. . .I'd rather go down fighting than to just give up and fall on my knees and hope Zero and his ilk treat me kindly.

This election is about more than the presidency.

And where is this "congress dominated by republicans" going to come from if Mitt is the nominee? Apart from those who refuse to vote for Mitt (who may nevertheless go to the polls to vote downticket . . . and may not), Mitt will not generate any enthusiasm in the conservative base. Lack of enthusiasm means depressed turnout. And all those precious liberals and moderates whom Mitt is supposed to draw (though they may well prefer Obama in the general) are really, really unlikely to vote in a conservative Congress.

Mitt has gotten as far as he has by money and lies; Obama can outclass him on both counts.
