Gingrich-Perry Pre-Convention Ticket in the Works
Fox News ^ | 3/11/12 | Carl Cameron

Posted on 03/11/2012 7:04:04 PM PDT by BCrago66

Sources close to the Gingrich campaign say preliminary "what-if" conversations are underway that could lead to a Gingrich-Perry ticket being announced prior to the Republican National Convention at the end of August.

Gingrich aides hope forming a predetermined ticket with Perry will unite the evangelical, Tea Party and very conservative voters that make up the core of the GOP.

As discussions got underway, two senior aides to Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who dropped out of the race and endorsed Gingrich, had not heard of the potential ticket and seemed dismissive. One noted that in the past, Perry has likened the Vice Presidency to a bucket of warm spit. Still, Gov. Perry volunteered his services when he endorsed Gingrich in South Carolina, so he may be on board if it's little more than a joy ride in a trial balloon.

I hope he asks Palin.

I heard someone on Fox say Mitt will likely ask Rubio.

Palin trumps Rubio. Lord, let it be Palin.

Republican presidential candidates, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Texas Gov. Rick Perry. (Chris Keane - Reuters)

Newt Gingrich: Rick Perry's book "almost came too late" [Forward to "Fed Up!"]

I wish this book had never needed to be written.

It almost came too late.

America is recklessly accelerating toward economic disaster. Fed Up! may be the last warning sign to the danger that lies ahead.

Rick Perry, Texas governor for the past decade, is uniquely qualified to offer a firsthand perspective on why the United States—the most successful civilization in human history—is being threatened with economic collapse.

First Principles

Faith, freedom, and free enterprise are the pillars of a strong, safe, prosperous society. Rick knows that when these principles are protected, America succeeds, and when they are undermined, America fails. But the Left has a different belief. The Left believes that most people are not capable of pursuing happiness and that a strong centralized government is best able to provide for them. While claiming compassion for humanity, the Left's policies are destructive to the human beings subject to them—as we have had to learn painfully again and again.

The Left's self-serving solution to every crisis, economic or otherwise, and many of their own doing, is always the same: inflict higher taxes on Americans to create more government programs with more rules and regulations that result in less freedom, less innovation, less safety, and less prosperity.

The problem with the Left’s one solution, as Rick forcefully explains in the pages that follow, is that it doesn't work. It's never worked, and it never will work. The record shows it.

But what the record also shows is that when power and freedom are returned to the people, when people are rewarded for work, and when government holds the line on spending, individuals and opportunity thrive. We have seen that result most spectacularly recently in Texas, and in the mid-1990s with the Contract with America Congress, when I served as Speaker of the House.

The Texas Record.....

Or maybe he's afraid he wouldn't carry TX without him.

Or he wants Obama to keep blaming Texans for everything.

Seems to me Paul's numbers in the poles ~ and the primaries/caucuses have fallen off the planet lately ~ back to the levels he had before the first election took place.

The surge has come and gone.

I think it’s good strategy to kick this stuff around. Let the voters know ahead of time what kind of people you intend to surround yourself with - VP, cabinet, press secretary, etc. It helps in the decision-making process.

In the beginning I was a Perry supporter and also liked Cain and Newt very much. Once Cain and Perry were out, I went strong for Newt.

I actively supported Newt here in Florida. The trash that came out from Romney on Newt really did do damage because the MSM was pushing the same BS too. BTW, Romney did NOT win Florida by a large margin unless you call 3% a large margin! AND the FL delegates may be awarded proportional before this is over!

I do think a Newt/Perry ticket would be a good one, but I also would love a Newt/West ticket!

geez, those are not china manufacturing jobs they are IDEA jobs and sales jobs, read the whole article. On top of that Apple is expanding not starting it’s first building in Texas. The have more cash in the bank the the federal government or the State of TEXAS. This is corporate handouts of the worst sort. Apple is not going to put those jobs in Calif where the cost of building the building and staffing it would be 30% higher than in the Austin area.

I live in Texas, have voted and worked for a number of republican candidates, I have never voted for him because he is not a true conservative and not a man of his word. Perry is pure talk, as we say down here “all hat and no cattle.” The reason he does poorly in debates is he needs talking points for a speech - he has no core.

I don't live in Texas, but no one can deny Texas is a national leader in most every index of concern. Perry is the Governor of this State which is a shining star among all other states, and certainly has a claim on it.

I think the folks on Fox speculate a little too much.

“So he may be on board....”

Who is that attributed to? Carl’s omniscience?

He does this all the time. It is not reporting. It is rumor mongering.

If he had stopped a paragraph before, it would have been OK. He just cannot help himself.

Let's put a couple of things into perspective - the Barnet Shale, the first BIG fracking find in TX was started without any help from Perry. The research, on fracking, started in the 1980s and drilling was on private lands or lands owned by cities, dfw airport etc. etc. 50,000 jobs but not much Perry did for that.

AT&T, Verizon, Nokia. TI and loads of other telecom related companies live and hire in Dallas - all those cell phone towers across America send money to DFW. Nothing started or paid for my Perry. Perry is like a certain former president, he thinks because he crows he makes the sun come up. Conservatives need leaders that don't waste tax payer money to get reelected.

No problem at all, except a fondness for puns and wordplay.

That "get in line" brought to mind an FR photoshop of Sandra Fluke with her legs spread, and a long line of men trailing off to the right, with a horse at the back of the line.

Cheers!
