Eatin’ grits is a sterotype of southerners. I’ve lived in Mississippi or Alabama for 49 years. I can count the number of times I’ve consumed a grit on both hands. Waffle house is the only restaurant I know of that serves them. And “cheesy grits”? What the hell is that? I’ve got to go- my possum is gettin cold.

I honestly don't know why any candidate does this. It might have worked 50 years ago, but not in this day and age. I would advise a candidate such as Mitt to just come out and say, “Yeah, I'm a Yankee. I'm not going to insult your intelligence by pretending I'm not. But the problems facing this country aren't limited to the North or South...” (then maybe toss in a couple self-deprecating Yankee jokes).
