A suspected car bomb attack has taken place at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan, as US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta was flying into the British base. The Pentagon said an Afghan national drove a stolen pick-up truck on to the ramp area of the base's airfield and then into a ditch running alongside the runway.
It is understood the vehicle did not explode, but the driver caught fire. He was arrested as he tried to run away.
The incident happened about the same time Mr Panetta's plane was landing.
Maybe he will come under ‘sniper fire’ that didn’t happen, Clinton style.

A vehicle has driven onto the runway at the main British military base in Afghanistan and burst into flames, reports say.
The incident took place as the US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta was visiting Camp Bastion, in Helmand province.
A spokesman for the Nato-led Isaf force said the driver of the vehicle was receiving medical treatment.
At no point was anyone on board Mr Panetta’s plane at risk, he added.
The vehicle was at the opposite end of the runway from the plane; Mr Panetta is not believed to have been on board at the time.
A flash was seen from the vehicle, but military sources have told the BBC that they would be “wary” of describing it as an explosion...

“In a sign of the nervousness surrounding Mr. Panetta’s trip, the Marines and other troops who were waiting in a tent for the defense secretary to speak were abruptly asked by their commander to get up, place their weapons — M-16 and M-4 automatic rifles and 9-mm pistols — outside the tent and then return unarmed. The commander, Sgt. Maj. Brandon Hall, told reporters he was acting on orders from superiors.”

These people are afraid of our troops. Leon Panetta thought our troops...OUR TROOPS were going to kill him.

It's a socialist thing. Hitler demanded the same of Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe personnel in many circumstances; Erich Hartmann balked at being disarmed on at least one occasion.
