SEATTLE (AP) — The U.S. soldier accused of slaughtering 16 Afghan villagers last weekend saw his friend's leg blown off the day before the rampage, his lawyer said Thursday.

Seattle attorney John Henry Browne told The Associated Press that according to his client's family, the suspect was standing next to another U.S. soldier when that soldier was gravely injured.

There's obviously plenty to this story that has not come out.

What are our objectives in Afghanistan again?

“What are our objectives in Afghanistan again?”

Find Osama Bin Laden! That’s where we OUGHT to be, instead of in Iraq fighting for Exxon/sarcasm;)

So have a friend that had his leg blown off is justification for mass murder, and we have an American lawyer saying that. If the glove don't fit!

Not a justication just bringing more facts to light. This is his 4th tour of duty in a war zone. The second tour he had a head injury. The third tour he had a leg injury.Seeing the buddy next to him having a leg blown off, I could see him snapping. I would reserve judgement till all the facts are known.

And why was this soldier’s friend put in an open position where his leg could be blown off? Which US national objective did this serve? Who are his officers who placed him in harms way? Did his commander in chief act responsibly ordering him there?

AGREED

Let let it run for a while and then see whether we fight against something or not

There is no reserve for judgment, unless you believe that you can have justification for mass murder. This is nothing more than an attempt to try a court case by public opinion, it is anti constitutional.

I really feel bad for this soldier. How many tours. Most probably honor bound to do his best, most probably while during his tours in Iraq, under some extremely tough assignments. To have it come to such an abrupt end as this.

So what? To get drunk and then murder people deserves a firing squad IMO.

If you knew John Henry Browne, you would immediately know this case is not going to be as easy as the prosecution may have initially thought. You can bet the prosecution had an, “Oh, shit” moment when they learned Browne might be part of the defense team.

Hey you two ... now c’mon girls, as you were ....

You’re BOTH pretty!

Did someone here say that this decorated, 4 combat tour trooper should be stood before a firing squad, at this time, without an investigation? or even a trial?

And then this same ... insect has the unmitigated temerity to use as a tagline,
“God protect our soldiers” or words to that effect.

Absoflukinglutely incredible. I’ve seen it all today.

Browne already stated the case will be more political than criminal.

All he can do is admit his guy did it and try to put Army and US policy on trail.

Should be interesting. The Army has a fine line to walk with the way they handle this.

“There’s obviously plenty to this story that has not come out.”

Like who was planted the IEDs blowing troops legs off.

What if this “family” was Al-Qaeda, monitoring the base, gathering intelligence, and killing our men.

You never know.

Just sayin’.

Seems to me that the objective in Afghanistan is to kill Islamists who are against the Islamist regime in Kabul (and in Pakistan).
