a shuttered DHL warehouse

Sounds like the clandestine setting for a made-for-tv movie of the week.

Agreed. The convention is so late that a person who didn't go through the primary campaigns would have little time to get known--while the media and the DNC would be busy turning him or her into a cross between Adolf Hitler and Cotton Mather. The last time a real outsider was nominated was 1940--and he lost.

A number of people look good on paper, but they are untested.

As Tacitus said of Galba: omnium consensu, capax imperii, nisi imperasset.

"In the opinion of everyone, capable of empire--if he had not been emperor."

A Romney/Santorum ticket would be a sure loser, and Romney knows it. He would pick a fellow abortionist like Christie, mark my words

I’d have MORE respect for a candidate who was able to effectively bypass the media distortions and deceptions. It’s obvious there is no fair vetting of candidates by the media- just look at the pass given to candidate Barak.

A brokered convention may the NUCLEAR OPTION to marginalize the media...just a thought.

I’m hoping for Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny as running mates. I might as well, they stand about the same chance of being nominated in a brokered convention as Sarah Palin or Allen West.

In the real world, A brokered convention will give us Mitt Romney with someone else probably in the race as his running mate. Its possible that someone will be pulled in as Mitt’s running mate but I doubt anyone here will be thrilled with them.

Yes but its pointless to think about since Mitt will be the nominee in a brokered convention. Its all about Mitt picking his running mate.

It's been all about Mitt the entire time. We never really had a choice.

The first time I ever heard about Mitt being considered for President was back in 2000 when my son worked for a conservative congressman. The GOP-E had just begun vetting him. They have wanted him since then and they will get him, brokered convention or no brokered convention, Newt in or Newt out. Mitt is their guy and they won't be denied!

The RINOS fear the Tea Party and its Republican delegates to the convention. They hear the rumble of the Tea Party Train already.

The DNC is beginning to realize its “sum of fears.” The RINO faction of the GOP is being forced into a truly representative process, a thing the ruling class of the GOP fears to the point of trembling.

The question is whether they fear it enough to throw all their delegates behind one Rino faction candidate.

Don’t care. Its pure FANTASY to believe that anyone but Mitt will walk away from a brokered convention as the nominee.

I am very disappointed with all that we have for Presidential candidates. But what disappoints me even more is that we seem to have also lost the momentum to completely take back Congress. Even if we had a fire-eater running that could win, without solid control of Congress he or she will be largely bottled up.

Don't get me wrong, I still want the Presidency - badly. There is likely to be two more Supreme Court vacancies during the next four years, and we really don't want any of zero's Marxists. But it is really a disappointment after the glorious 2010. I thought we would storm and solidly take over Congress in 2012. That seems to have faded.

While delegates may be technically free to vote for anyone after the first ballot, you have to factor in their affinity for the candidate they are representing.

In most states (I think) the delegates are elected BECAUSE they represent that they are FOR candidate “X”. Most of them have a lot of time, money and love invested in that candidate because they want him for President.

So although they may be free after the first ballot, most will continue to vote for their candidate until it becomes hopeless and/or they are ‘released’. The trick for the candidate is to maintain his control over his delegates and not let them bleed away as it becomes apparent that he cannot make a deal to win.

When a candidate decides to quit and releases his delegates it usually comes with a very strong suggestion that they vote for candidate “y” with whom candidate “x” has made a deal for either a spot on the ticket as V-Pres. or at the very least something desirable like Sec. of State or whatever. It all depends on how many delegates he can control and how badly ‘Y’ wants them.

Conventions that are not a fait accompli are fun and exciting.

It’s my thought, as well.

I don’t doubt that we’d get one of the three running now (I consider Ron Paul a circus sideshow, not a candidate). Probably it would still be (gag) Myth.

But it would derail the MSM script for awhile and focus attention on the real debate, which is Conservatism vs. Republicratism-Business-As-Usual.

Messy, but the airing out the laundry would be good for the nation — and might pull the candidate (and the electorate) to the right, whoever it turns out to be.

Just my 2c

Yeah, but hopefully after agreeing to some more conservative “marching orders” that it will be difficult (or at least awkward) for him to abandon later.

I know that’s not much — but it’s *something*.
