I can’t blame him for trying and having a soft spot for a couple kids. I once saw two 8-9 year old girls walking along the freeway. I stopped. It turns out, they ran across the freeway on their way to visit Grandma. They asked if I could drive them there.
“uh...NO” I had already called the cops and someone else also stopped. The officer was very graphic about what their dead bodies would look like if they had been hit on the freeway and took them off somewhere.
I think in this case, I would call cops, allow them in the car to heat up after calling and telling dispatch what I was doing and who I was. I may stay outside the car or at least idle with door open wiating for police.
Of course they do. You have to justify your existence, and that means by sometimes creating criminals where none exist. You'll thank them later.
About 35 years ago I did the same thing.

Unfortunately, this is true and has been for some time.
And many men now act accordingly out of self preservation.
I used to always stop to offer help to folks in such situations as described here, or ladies with flat tires, etc.
Not any more. Those days were over two decades ago.
