(Obama's) Campaign calls De Niro comment 'inappropriate' after Gingrich blast

(CNN) - President Barack Obama's re-election organization said Tuesday it was "inappropriate" for Robert De Niro to joke at a campaign fundraiser in New York Monday that America wasn't "ready for a white first lady."

"We believe the joke was inappropriate," Olivia Alair, Campaign Press Secretary to the First Lady, said in a statement.

The campaign's comment came after Newt Gingrich delivered a scorching response to De Niro's comments at an Obama for America fundraiser, which was attended by first lady Michelle Obama.

While Michelle Obama headlined the event, she was introduced after De Niro's remarks. The event was also attended by a number of other prominent Obama supporters, including Harvey Weinstein and Beyonce.

"Callista Gingrich. Karen Santorum. Ann Romney. Now do you really think our country is ready for a white first lady?" De Niro asked to cheers from the crowd. "Too soon, right?"

Speaking Tuesday, Gingrich labeled the comments "inexcusable," and called on Obama to apologize.

"I do want to say one thing, both on behalf of my wife and on behalf of Karen Santorum and on behalf of Ann Romney, I think that Robert De Niro's wrong," Gingrich said. "I think the country is ready for a new first lady and he doesn't have to describe it in racial terms."

Gingrich immediately clarified he thought Michelle Obama, along with the wives of his fellow GOP presidential candidates, were all "fine ladies."

"But this is not about the first lady," Gingrich continued. "It's about the president. That's where De Niro missed the whole point. De Niro is rich enough he probably doesn't notice the price of gasoline. He's successful enough he probably doesn't notice the unemployment rate. As the Hollywood actor, he might well be shortsighted enough he doesn't understand what it might do to our children and our grandchildren."

Gingrich called on Obama to apologize for the remarks, since they were made at an event raising money for his re-election.

"What De Niro said last night was inexcusable and the president should apologize for him. It was at an Obama fundraiser, it is exactly wrong, it divides the country," Gingrich said, adding that the left was quick to call out conservative talk show hosts for offensive comments but silent when the vitriol comes from the left.

"If people on the left want to talk about talk show hosts, then everybody in the country should hold the president accountable when someone at his event says something that is utterly and terrible unacceptable as what Robert De Niro said," Gingrich said.

Speaking on the Laura Ingraham Show Tuesday, fellow presidential candidate Rick Santorum largely avoided weighing in on De Niro's comments.

"It's just someone from Hollywood or someone from the entertainment industry just spouting off as they do," Santorum said. "It's sad, but I'm not going to bite on that one. It's just sad. The idea of looking at politics through eyes of race should be over. That's just over. I don't know where he thinks he's coming from."

Santorum needs to get his act together.

It is an actor spouting off, but he’s spouting off as an Obama supporter and contributor and his ilk have foisted this radical disaster on America.

Then he stands there in public and brings up the race of possible first ladies vs the current black one.

Take this in the context of the Left always savaging conservatives for any questionable comment they make, and how they try to intimidate them, drive them out of their jobs and off the airwaves.

But they can say ANYTHING and get away with it, in their minds.

This is the context.

It isn’t just some actor spouting off like they do.

This is what we have to call them on.

Every time they do it.

"amazing that so many hollyweirders can also be such fine actors...."

Their talent is to easily believe a fantasy, and it seems completely real to them. That is how method acting works. Many of the greatest actors are insane to some extent.

If you are willing to believe a fantasy, then you will naturally tend to be a socialist.

"That doesn’t make him black."

True. But there's an inexplicable tendency among some whites these days to want to BE black, and/or suck up to them in an embarrassing manner. You see it all the time---white kids dressing like "gangstas" with their stupid pants around their hips and their caps turned backward, and strangest of all, TALKING like they're black (using ebonics). I guess DeNiro is one of those white people who either hates his own race, or just thinks blacks are "cooler" than whites. By kissing their butts he can obtain some of that coolness by having them "approve" of him.

Crazy. A black friend of mine once asked me, very sincerely for want of knowledge, why white people try to act like they're black. I said I had no idea, because I was perfectly happy in the white skin God gave me. She laughed and said, "That is IT, that's how it should be!"

That he has a black wife was given to me as an explanation for his racial spouting.

My point from the getgo was that it didn’t even make sense as a joke for a white guy to be putting down potential white first ladies.

That’s when it was explained to me, oh, he has a black wife.

So?

That’s why my answer was, that doesn’t make HIM black. IOW, the point of the senselessness of a white guy making those anti-white-first-lady comments doesn’t change because his wife is black.

Yes, really.

De Niro likes the black ladies...

His wife is black, and she's not the first. I read that he recently was at a fundraiser and was photographed talking to Moochelle, who was seated next to him. He was all animated in expression as he spoke to Moochelle.

He said what he said to impress Moochelle....and I wonder what he expects in return. He's such a kiss azz and lover boy!

"That’s why my answer was, that doesn’t make HIM black."

Unfortunately, I think that is where you are wrong. In his little pea brained mind, he probably DOES think he is black...or at least "down w/ it".

“De Niro is rich enough he probably doesn’t notice the price of gasoline. He’s successful enough he probably doesn’t notice the unemployment rate.”

Whether you like him or not, you have to admire Newt for being expert at dealing with the left.

Note in the above instance how he takes their class warfare tactics and very simply flings it back at them. I can’t think of any other living conservative that’s able to do this.

The man thinks on his feet and has a mind like a steel trap. The dems DO NOT want to run against Newt.

Obama would demand an apology if someone said the same about his wife.

Right. Did EVERYONE see how Newt handled this??

Quickly, succinctly. Pulled NO punches. Stated it precisely ...it was DIVISIVE and Obama SHOULD BE ASHAMED of himself.

Obama promptly apologizes.

THIS is how you lead. This is how conservativism needs to respond, every single freaking time. Where were the other two??? Shrinking violets in the corner, awaiting their “liberal” Illinois voting outcome, which is basically worthless to us in the general election.

Newt could not be more refreshing ....PLEASE, people, watch, observe ....vote accordingly!!!!
