IL GOP Primary (Live Thread)
03-20-2012

Posted on 03/20/2012 4:21:26 PM PDT by parksstp

Did not see a thread started for tonight. About 50 mintues before polls close.

Tonight, it's important to keep track of the actual delegate count. Even though Romney will likely be projected the winner within 30 minutes, the delegate math will what's important.

Romney has solid leads in the 7 CD's in Northern IL/Around Chicago. These total about 19 Delegates

3 Congressional Districts covering North/Mid state are too close to call. These total about 9 Delegates.

Santorum's got the edge in the Downstate 8 Congressional Districts. These total about 26 Delegates.

Depending on how the 3 CD's swing, it is possible that Santorum could lose the popular vote, significantly, and yet still walk away with a split of the delegates.

Latest Projections:

Romney 45-46% Santorum 35-36% Gingrich 8-9% Paul 6-7%

I believe he had something like 4 appearances in Illinois and he and the SuperPAC barely spent anything on advertising there. He’s focused most of his money and time on Louisiana while Santorum and Romney fought it out over Illinois. Paul didn’t make a stand in Illinois either.

Whether Gingrich is serious or not really isn’t the point. The point is that Gingrich and Paul cleared the playing field in Illinois and rendered it a one-on-one race. We’re seeing the results. Not good. Not good at all.

“I've asked Newt supporters and have never got an answer. Can you name anything conservative Newt did between his time as a congressman and his time running for president?
I looks to me like he was the typical cocktail party circuit Republican...supported Cap-and-Trade with Pelosi, in on Fannie and Freddie, opposed the Ryan budget, worked against the tea party for Dede. Can you name anything conservative?”

I pinged Jim Rob to answer your questions. You should put on body armour.

Not good. Not good at all.

Illinois hasn't voted Republican since Bush '41's first term.

Santorum is up now in a bunch of counties. The theory that Dems want Santorum is out the window, that's for sure. Romney is and has been winning all the Obama counties. The Dems don't want Santorum to provide a contrast to Obama. They know Romney is another McCain.

My office is in Illinois (we live across the river in Iowa). Co-workers said that turnout was really low.

I think that's been the trend. Wherever Mittens does well, the voter turnout has been unusually low.

Another non-answer. Instead of being a tattle-tell, tell me something conservative he did in that time.

Four appearances is a typical Newt primary campaign except when it is a state he feels the love in. So he did campaign there and is polling poorly as usual.

Paul is just Paul. He never is serious.

I’m really not understanding your point. Yes, Newt barely pinged the vote meter in Illinois. Nor did RuPaul. Romney swept Illinois by more than Santorum, Paul and Gingrich voters combined. I’m not happy about this, are you?

This is the second thread today where we had to remove another one of your phony links and fake sources. Please do not use fake links or any link shorteners.

If material is blocked here, that means you shouldn’t post the material. Demanding that people google to find the article doesn’t work.

You’ve been a member since 2007, you are not a newbie, and you haven’t read all the information Jim Rob has put on this website, his website, about Newt Gingrich and you don’t know Jim has endorsed Newt???? All Newt supporters have put on tons of information about him.

You don’t deserve an answer - you need to learn to read - your brain will like it.

OK...so tell me what he’s done, I really want to know. Yes I know what he did as a congressman and as I’ve said he was politically loved by me then. I wanted him to run for president when he resigned his congressional seat. But now I don’t because he didn’t fight the fight in the last few years like Sarah, Santorum, DeMint, and others have. These last few years have been critical. I consider Cap-and-Trade as something to go to Revolution for. It’s classic Taxation without Representation. Why did he support the enemy on this?

Instead of being a whiny wuss, why don't you just answer his question.

It's not that hard. I can.

Do any of these morons think Romney will take IL against Obama?

Romney is winning by big margins in Chicago, Cook county, Cook suburbs, Lake county. I can't imagine him beating a democrat in any of them.

Conservative things that Newt did between leaving Congress and running for president included giving much needed support to remove activist judges in Iowa and launching TenMillionVoters.com

None of these guys is perfect but to bitch about either Newt or Santorum is stupidly counter-productive.

Remove two counties in Chicago, Cook and Will that no Republican will ever win, and Santorum is leading the state count. He is actually doing better than predicted at this point. Even if all of Gingrich’s voters had voted for Santorum, it would have made no difference tonight.

Nothing here that excites me. My man is losing and will probably drop out,

Don't feel bad. I'm a 4 time loser... Cain, Perry, Gingrich, Santorum. It's enough to make me cry because there is no one left to support.
