California Republicans Get Behind Mitt Romney The national front-runner has a substantial lead in the state over Rick Santorum, with other rivals trailing in the distance. But there's little enthusiasm for the GOP field overall.
By Seema Mehta March 25, 2012 Republican voters in California have swung behind Mitt Romney, with the national presidential front-runner crushing his rivals by double digits and substantially expanding his support in the state, a new poll has found.
Romney won 42% of registered Republican voters, with his closest rival, Rick Santorum, trailing by 19 points, according to the USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll. Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul were a distant third and fourth.
Romney's support has risen by 15 points since a November USC/Times poll, when Herman Cain was his closest competitor. (The former businessman has since dropped out.)
Yet there remains a palpable lack of enthusiasm for the Republican field. Half of GOP voters said they wished other candidates were running for president.
Barbara Foley, a 73-year-old Republican, said she would prefer former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio or Rep. Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin. She decided to vote for Romney by process of elimination — she says Santorum is too socially conservative, Gingrich is smart but a "loose cannon," and Paul — "well, I just think he's nuttier than a fruitcake."

Mitt can’t top 42% in what is essentially a two man race now. Not very impressive.

Of course not. But Ricky, as you dismissively refer to him, courageously points out the devastating toll of the crumbling American family. Neither socialism nor Ryan budget plans cannot solve the problem of selfish, materialistic, child-abandoning parents. Our nation has a 50 percent divorce rate. Forty percent of babies are born out of wedlock and many will head for the welfare rolls or jail.
The welfare state prospers when the family does not. Kudos to Santorum for pointing out the truth.
As I said, something is wrong with the person if he marries more than twice. In this instance, there's something really wrong with that person's judgment.
Ref your post 15, I had no reference at all to someone whose marriage ends in death. Why should I, for goodness sakes? And, as I pointed out, I completely understand divorce in the instance of the first marriage, one is often young and naive in those marriages.
I have reference to those men who engage in serial marriages because they come across younger and more beautiful babes. Rush Limbaugh comes immediately to mind. And I believe there is something wrong with him and others like him. For one thing, they cannot comprehend the meaning of “til death do us part.” The marriage vows mean nothing to them.
