Hollywood icon James Cameron has made it to Earth's deepest point.
The director of "Titanic," ''Avatar" and other films used a specially designed submarine to dive nearly seven miles, completing his journey a little before 8 a.m. Monday local time, according to Stephanie Montgomery of the National Geographic Society.
He plans to spend about six hours exploring and filming the Mariana Trench, about 200 miles southwest of the Pacific island of Guam.
"All systems OK," were Cameron's first words upon reaching the bottom, according to a statement. His arrival at a depth of 35,756 feet came early Sunday evening on the U.S. East Coast, after a descent that took more than two hours.

Navy did it 50 years ago in the “Trieste” spelling ?
wait - Cameron is inside that thing? Why?
I have to give it up for him, pretty amazing
alone, that deep, in the dark.
I hope he turned off his lights at some point.
This marks a turning point in underwater exploration.
Did he find the weighted bottle with the birth certificate rolled up inside?
Yes, who spent the most money doing it.
why do you hope he turned off the lights?
All I can think of is the comments of the guys taking a piss off the bridge over the river, when one says “It is cold” and his friend says “Deep Too”!
I actually remember when that happened. About half way down the outer glass cracked with a loud bang. Unbelievably they continued on down and finished the mission.
If I had been on that thing I guarantee you it would have gone back up immediately.
Lights on at that depth would blind all those creatures who reside at that depth!
They would have had to bring it up if i was on it the smell coming from my pants would have made it toxic to be in that thing
Wow — that’s pretty dangerous. He’s getting pretty close to the point where the temperature of the Earth is millions of degrees! </sarc>
Any creature at that depth wouldn't have eyes. There is no light.
He is a cheat and an a hole, but you can not doubt his bravery. His money, his choice, our gain. Good for you James Cameron....
lol
Hell he was just trying to go someplace that never heard Of Trayvon Martin
