The Justice Department may bring a hate crime charge against the man who shot and killed black teenager Trayvon Martin if more evidence surfaces indicating the shooter action's were motivated by racial bias, legal experts and former prosecutors say...

"It sounds pretty obvious to me," said Donald Tibbs, a Drexel University law professor who has closely studied race, civil rights and criminal procedure. "If that was a racial epithet that preceded the attack on Trayvon Martin, we definitely have a hate crime."

There is some wind or other noise in Call 1 in the 911 call list on the Sandord web page on this event that some are interpreting as George Zimmerman saying “effing coon” under his breath.

It is a stretch, but these people are out to create a racial incident.

Although there must be some agenda, I cannot for the life of me figure out why the Dems would want to incite an African American/Peruvian American conflict. Seems to me that the Latino vote would be of great importance in the upcoming election, as the African American vote is already theirs. First thing, before elevation to a hate crime, is was there any crime whatsoever committed, and right now, it looks like there probably wasn’t.

In order to have hate crime, you must first have a crime.

There is simply no evidence whatsoever of any crime here.

And that is what Sharpton is implicitly admitting:

This is frightening and Orwellian. It is repugnant to the entire spirit of Anglo-Saxon justice and to United States Constitution. Whatever happened to the presumption of innocence? The despicable behavior of the press, especially the talking heads on the Sunday shows, demonstrates the real danger these hate crime laws pose to law-abiding Americans.

God help us if Rev. Sharpton can try us on what he thinks we think.

A member of my family was an employee at the local university and the only white in the office. They were accused of using the N word and, immediately fired. Fortunately someone in a position to do came to their defense and was able to go an other department. You are right one only has to be accused.

If you must use deadly force to defend yourself, any verbal outburst is pretty much acceptable, and of no consequence,I would think.
If Mr Zimmerman is acquitted of any wrongdoing, and yet some kind of trumped up “hate” charge is brought against him, then it is time to give these fools the war the think they want IMHO.

When the race-baiters started on this thing, they probably looked at the last name “Zimmerman” and decided that its owner was a non-Hispanic white, probably of German or Jewish descent.

Like many other people in Florida, Zimmerman in fact is from a family that has both Hispanic and non-Hispanic members. Calling him a “cracker,” however, is going a little far...but that’s what they want to see in this.

Finally, blacks and Hispanics have little in common. Outside of certain inner city gang areas, Hispanics are just like any immigrant group, learning the language, acclimatizing and getting ahead, and they also tend to value family and church. Lower class black culture, on the other hand, creates people who aren’t going anywhere, and there’s a lot of hostility towards Hispanics on the part of blacks, who feel that they “deserve” to be given what Hispanics are actually working for.

So I think the race baiting contingent really doesn’t care what Zimmerman’s background is, just simply that he’s not black. Because if he had been black and shot this kid, it would simply have been just another day in the neighborhood and they wouldn’t have cared.

I’m glad the situation didn’t result in a horrible outcome for your relative. I seldom eat out, and that incident had a big impact on that.
