Gingrich insists he'll run until Romney has 1,144 delegates (article and short video)

Newt Gingrich insisted Monday that he would continue in the fight for the Republican presidential nomination until Mitt Romney secured the 1,144 delegates necessary to clinch the nomination, saying 'a whole new conversation' would occur if the frontrunner was also unable to hit the necessary total.

"I think the morning that he gets 1,144 that are locked down, then I think he claim to be the nominee. But until then, he's not the nominee," Gingrich said on CNN. "Remember, I'm from Atlanta, where we were ahead by 10.5 games last year with only 28 games to go, and the Cardinals didn't quit. Everybody wanted them to, but they just kept coming and they ended up winning. I think this is not over until it's over. "

..."Look, I think the front-runner's clearly Mitt Romney. Out of 10 million votes cast so far, he's only gotten four million. So he's the weakest front-runner in modern times," Gingrich said.

Gingrich defended his candidacy from calls from Republican leaders—and some of his own supporters—to exit the race.

"I say to them the same thing that Hillary Clinton would have said in 2008 when she was taking on Barack Obama. That ran all the way to mid-June, and only when he had finally the votes did he have the votes. This is a contest. "

"Gov. Romney spent six years, $40 million of his own money. He has outspent the rest of us by huge margins, and he's gotten four million out of 10 million votes. There is no obligation to concede it to him. If he can win it, more power to him. If he doesn't win it, then June, July and August become very interesting months," Gingrich said.

Host Wolf Blitzer then pressed Gingrich to admit that rival Rick Santorum ...

Hang in there Newt? We don’t vote until May 29th and I want to cast a vote that won’t make me puke to do so.

“Yeah, maybe Newt HAS class cuz Rick Santorum has been handing him his cl’ass all through the primaries;)”

And in return Newt gave Santorum all his ideas....except for “the economy is getting better”, “unemployment doesn’t matter”, “might as well stick with what we got (Obama)”, pronouncing Zimmerman guilty without a trial, robocalling Democrats in Michigan, “taking one for the team”, denying a separation between church and state........

Boom goes the dynamite.

Shout out to warrior VinL!

That the whole thing will go faster with himself in the race, he’ll still get to make free speeches after each election, and he can still be relevant.

Newt and Paul are hopelessly out of the running and that's a glaring fact.

Santorum is still in the running even though it is a long shot that he will ever catch Romney. Still, it is a two man race.

So it is a realpolitik axiom that a hit on Rick is a kiss on Mitt.

Now if someone is a Mittbot, I could respect their bashing Santorum—at least they have some integrity even if their man is a serial liar RINO.

Newt is in it, and as long as he is, so am I. I love it, this is what conviction and belief is all about.

If Romney gets 1144 there is no brokered convention, Newt gets out it’s over. If Romney doesn’t get 1144 then there is a brokered convention and Newt stays in.

Bragging on the LOSER isn't very convincing—say what you want—conservatives put Rick Santorum in second place leaving your man flatfooted and attempting revenge by helping Romney get the nomination instead of Rick.

Here's looking at you with my thumb and index finger over my forehead in the shape of an “L” ;)

My wife and I can’t think of anyone that would make a better President than Newt Gingrich or anyone more likely than him to beat obama and we stand with Newt as long as he stays in the race.

Newt can stay in but he won’t be winning anything. To think so is delusional.

Can Newt win another state in the schedule? If so, Game on!
If not, he’s helping Mitt

*****************

I don’t know if he wins another state- doesn’t matter really. Newt’s playing for a playoff— stop Romney, get into the open convention tournament.

Newt has to stay around— if not, Romney and the Gop-e will overwhelm team player Rick. It will be over in a flash-.

Right now, Newt helps Rick.

Then we all lose. I don’t believe Santorum or Romney will or can beat obama. But as long as we actually have someone in the race capable of leading the country and making the difference of America being able to escape from the mire and muck we’re in or not, I’ll support him. To have a nominee that can’t win the big one is another very hollow victory.

Don't you guys who stir it up for Newt, have anything better to do-for months and months, we hear the same ole line-how Rick is sent by God and the others who oppose him for his views are like some kind of second class person, who lives off of hate and takes that hate out on Rick.
Geez, you are becoming sooo foolish with these fights. People are showing good patience for you guys. Newt is not getting out -maybe if Rick divides the ocean, I bet Newt would then—so, until that happens, Newt is in until it is over. Ricky, on the other hand, if he had united after Florida, we would be almost done with Romney by now. So, go look in the Ricky mirror, and thank yourselves. While there, thank Newt for still remaining in, due to an event that Rick and Mitt do fail. We don't want Mitt and Ricky does not have the gravitas to be president which he proves (by his own doings Not by Newt) Have a nice evening.

Newt cannot win the big one. He can’t even get Republicans and conservatives to vote for him.

What part of that is it you don’t understand?

He comes in behind Ron Paul in more than a few races.

Newt would be creamed in the general election.

Coulda shoulda woulda—whatever, it's in the past—At least we are fighting for our candidate NOW and not for Mitt Romney like you guys are.

Oh and by the way--I think it's great that Rick Santorum is a devout Christian Conservative with a solid moral core.
