Dem kicked off House floor for 'hoodie' in Trayvon Martin protest By Pete Kasperowicz - 03/28/12 10:45 AM ET

Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) on Wednesday morning was asked to leave the House floor after removing his suit jacket to reveal a "hoodie," then putting the hood of his sweatshirt on his head to protest the Trayvon Martin killing in Florida.

"Racial profiling has to stop," Rush said. "Just because someone wears a hoodie does not make them a hoodlum." Rush also put on sunglasses.

Rush quoted the Bible while presiding officer Gregg Harper (R-Miss.) repeatedly interrupted him, then asked the Sergeant at Arms to enforce the House prohibition on hats in the chamber.

"The chair must remind members that clause 5 of rule 17 prohibits the wearing of hats in the chamber when the House is in session," Harper said after Rush left. "The chair finds that the donning of a hood is not consistent with this rule. Members need to remove their hoods or leave the floor."

Several members of the Congressional Black Caucus have taken to the House floor for the last week to call for the arrest of George Zimmerman, who allegedly shot Martin in Florida in April. While these calls have escalated, Florida police have said some witnesses saw Martin beat Zimmerman before the shooting, and Zimmerman's lawyers have said he acted in self-defense.

Obama flamed the fire at the beginning then ran and hid under Moochelle’s skirt.

“Members need to remove their hoods or leave the floor”
Did Robert Byrd comply with this?

It is a shame that Bobby Rush is politicizing the tragedy of the young man’s death like this.

He shames his office.

Several members of the Congressional Black Caucus have taken to the House floor for the last week to call for the arrest of George Zimmerman

Are they also calling for Spike Lee's arrest, who published what he thought was Zimmerman's address on the Internet, only to find that it was the address of an elderly couple who are now forced from their home thanks to death threats, hate mail, etc?

Spike Lee should at least be sued for the expenses he has now put this blameless couple through.

Imagine if they try to sell their house. It’s now probably unsellable.

The suit should account for the cost of the house.

While it’s terrible that this kid got killed, how can we extrapolite from this one incident that black youth are at great danger from racists with guns???

Thousands of black kids and young men are killed every year by other black men with guns. Much of it is gang violence.

If the issue that “our children” (black children) are being killed, shouldn’t these guys turn their attention to the pandemic of gang violence in the black community????

While tragic that this one kid was killed, this incident is so rare, that you wonder about the reasoning which says that the greatest risk to black youth is a racist with a gun.

Stop racial profiling? So then is black on black crime is not a cause for concern, because that’s not a matter of racist whites attacking blacks? What are we saying???

Calling George Zimmerman a "white-Hispanic" is extreme racial profiling, breaking race into sub-categories.

But it's OK to be racist against Whitey.

The fact that someone wears a pillowcase does not make him a Klansman.

Spike Lee will never be held accountable for his actions in this case.

Spike Lee is a member of an officially recognized aggrieved group. He’s supporting the latest liberal cause celebre. A member of a politically correct protected aggrieved group, advocating for some liberal cause, never faces any consequences.

It would be nice if Spike Lee would do the right thing, but he won’t.

"Just because someone wears a hoodie does not make them a hoodlum."

He's right. Breaking someone's nose and bashing their head against the sidewalk does, however.
