War On Words: NYC Dept. Of Education Wants 50 ‘Forbidden’ Words Banned From Standardized Tests

The New York City Department of Education is waging a war on words of sorts, and is seeking to have words they deem upsetting removed from standardized tests.

Fearing that certain words and topics can make students feel unpleasant, officials are requesting 50 or so words be removed from city-issued tests.

Among Those Suggested: Birthday celebrations (and birthdays),Cigarettes (and other smoking paraphernalia),Expensive gifts, vacations, and prizes,Hunting,Religion,Religious holidays and festivals (including but not limited to Christmas, Yom Kippur, and Ramadan),Slavery,Terrorism....

They werent’ talking about banning words...only about not allowing certain words on a standardized reading test. There’s no reason why a standardized reading test needs to have questions about sex or drugs on it.

Years ago, they changed the title of “The Old Man and the Sea”
to the “Elderly Man and the Sea” on their English Regents exam.

Beyond stupid.

If you want to find the biggest idiots with the largest salaries just go to any public education administration. Those that can’t do, teach. Those that can’t teach, administrate or go into student counseling.

Celebrities

Children dealing with serious issues

Cigarettes (and other smoking paraphernalia)

Computers in the home (acceptable in a school or library setting)

Evolution

Expensive gifts, vacations, and prizes

Gambling involving money

Halloween

Homelessness

Homes with swimming pools

Hunting

Junk food

In-depth discussions of sports that require prior knowledge

Loss of employment

Nuclear weapons

Occult topics (i.e. fortune-telling)

Rap Music

Religion

Religious holidays and festivals (including but not limited to Christmas, Yom Kippur, and Ramadan)

Rock-and-Roll music

Traumatic material (including material that may be particularly upsetting such as animal shelters)

Vermin (rats and roaches)

Violence

War and bloodshed

Weapons (guns, knives, etc.)

Witchcraft, sorcery, etc.
