Conflicting Stories by Martin Family About Trayvon's Last Night?
Friday, March 30, 2012 | Kristinn

I don't know what it means, but this strikes me as odd. From an interview with the parents of slain teenager Trayvon Martin by the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA):

Martin, Trayvon’s mother, Sybrina Fulton; Benjamin Crump, the family lawyer; Al Sharpton and former New York Gov. David Patterson participated in an exclusive 1-hour telephone conference call last Thursday with more than three dozen publishers from the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA).

Martin told publishers how he learned that his son had been killed.

“I had been out to dinner. When we got back between 10:15 and 10:45, he wasn’t at home. The night before, he had been to the movies with my nephew, who had recently moved up to the Orlando area from Miami. Every time Trayvon would come up here, they would find something to do, usually they would go to dinner. My nephew is 20 years old, a very responsible young man. So there was not panic at that moment that he was not home. I made several attempts to call his cell phone and it was going straight to voicemail. I called my nephew’s cell phone and it was going straight to voicemail. So at that point, I figured they had been in the movies because they would always go to the movies.”

Tracy Martin and his girlfriend went to bed. But the next morning, the day Martin and his son had planned to return to Miami, he learned that Trayvon still wasn’t back in the house. Tracy called his nephew again, this time reaching him and learning that Trayvon wasn’t with him.

Today, CNN published comments from a Martin family attorney that seems to conflict with the account proffered by Tracy Martin:

During the 10-day suspension, Tracy Martin took his son with him to Sanford, about four hours away from Miami, while he visited his fiancée because neither he nor Fulton wanted their son to stay in his hometown where he could enjoy his friends, said Horton, who has been in close contact with Martin's father.

"He wasn't just suspended from school and up at Sanford kicking it and having a good time," said Horton. Martin had only been to Sanford a handful of times.

His fateful walk to the convenience store for a bag of Skittles and an iced tea on the evening of February 26 happened only because the teenager pleaded to leave the apartment, said Horton.

"The only reason he got a chance to go to the store is because he begged his dad to go," he said. At the time, his father and his fiancée had gone out to dinner and to watch a basketball game, leaving Martin at the townhouse, according to Martin family spokesman Ryan Julison.

While walking to the store, Martin was on the phone with his girlfriend, whom he had been talking to for over 6½ hours throughout the day, the family's attorney said, citing phone records. The girl, who did not want to be identified, said she told Martin to run, but he refused, the family attorney said.

What strikes me is the father made no mention of his son begging him to be allowed to go to the store in his interview with the NPAA. That would be crushing to a parent, if true. They would be guilt-ridden, thinking if only they had said no, he wouldn't have been out.

Instead, Tracy Martin says he was not very concerned about the whereabouts of his son until the next morning.

It strikes me as odd.

Strikes me that they are reading blogs which point out discrepancies in their story and are slowly changing elements of the story.

First article I’ve seen referencing the father’s girlfriend as his fiancee.

Also the tone changes to imply this was part of a disciplinary measure on Trayvon, which previously he was going up for the ride to be with his father and father’s girlfriend without any allusion to Trayson’s suspension.

Of course, obvious disciplinary measures appear absent. Trayson is talking 6-1/2 hrs a day on cell phone to a girlfriend. Who is paying for the cell phone? Seems like that would be the first thing removed during a ‘grounding’.

Next, if it took a substantial parental enforcement to relax the grounding and allow Trayvon to walk to the 7-11, at night, then when the parent returned and the boy wasn’t there, the first thing going through his mind probably would have been a lack of control over his son’s actions. It also probably would have naturally triggered some strong resentment about his son not being where he should’ve been. If not, then there really wasn’t any earlier concern regarding a disciplinary grounding. Just sayin’...the story isn’t consistent. How he handled his son was his business. But, it doesn’t appear consistent with the timeline and testimony that he was disciplining his son in this situation.

I didn’t know that. Wonder if we will hear the results of an autopsy report. Don’t they automatically do an autopsy in a murder?

I wonder how far the girlfriend’s townhouse is from the area of the shooting

I read somewhere that the shooting happened just 70 feet from the house where the father was staying.

I have been on the family's side, but, awhile ago, I also commented, wondering why the father didn't hear the police or the gunshots and also wondering why he didn't check into his son's whereabouts until the next morning. Now we know the father was not home, so that explains why he didn't hear anything. And, if he had heard, would he have been able to stop it from happening? Who knows, but he might be asking himself that question over and over again.

What fascinates me is the dad's statement "When we got back between 10:15 and 10:45, he wasn’t at home", in conjunction with the fact that the report in another thread that Treyvon was shot within 30 yards of where he was staying, and that the police were on the scene till 3AM.

After dark, you would think the investigators would have lights set up to illuminate the scene to look for evidence. Me, I would notice a bunch of police investigating a crime scene near my house. Also, you would have people outside discussing events if there was a killing near their homes. It's not like it was a huge place. And the dad arrived around 10:30 and noticed nothing worthy of his curiosity...

He doesn’t care.

Do you suppose that some folks are better than others and immune from mocking?

Some folks, maybe, are Godlike and above question or criticism?

Really? Do you have shrines to these persons set up in your house?

Good for you, that makes you a perv.

Me, I am a bit more realistic than that.

You go ahead and bow down, though.

Kneel, you dog!

Why would they need to be notified? If you came home and there were numerous cops, cop cars, crime scene tape and neighbors milling around wouldn’t you be curious enough to ask someone what was going on?

“Tracy Martin and his girlfriend went to bed.”

At his home or hers, or do they live in same home, and is that also the home to which Treyvon had not yet returned for his nighttime wandering?

So many questions; so few good answers.

If you’ve seen the google map of the “gated” community, the store is off the upper left hand corner, across a busy double highway according to a freeper who lives in the area.

I question whether dad knew when he left that son was “going shopping”

-- and that the police were on the scene till 3AM. --

We don't know that. I haven't seen reports from crime scene processing, which would include time they arrived and departed, etc. What was conlcuded at 3AM or thereabouts was initial paperwork, much of which could/would have been done from the office, not the scene.

Tracy Martin said; “I had been out to dinner. When we got back between 10:15 and 10:45, he wasn’t at home.” What home does that sound like he’s talking about?

Marketing Strategy. The patented Trayvon merchandise will rake in higher profits if the purveyors are seen as sympathetic characters. A father who lets his son run around wearing gold teeth and and doesn't even investigate the kid's whereabouts when he hasn't returned home after a shooting in the neighborhood doesn't attract much sympathy. So he needs to reinvent his image.

“”First article I’ve seen referencing the father’s girlfriend as his fiancee.””

First time I’ve seen that this kid was from Miami and went to Sanford with his father for a visit... I’m really out of touch on this one. I find this thread confusing. It reads like “Who’s on First” to me!

Where does the mother live?

I have been forming my own theory about this case but haven't elaborated on it yet in a post. This part of the father's statement is very important to my thinking.

What they are changing now is back when we all thought he was an honor roll student, it was ok to leave the kid alone and give him permission to go to the store alone, but as more information comes out, that is not the home situation the Martin was in.

Here is part of my theory.

From the father originally:

This is the troubling text. His father didn't know where Trayvon was. The part that he wasn't concerned I believe is less than upfront, but the main fact is true, when he came back, he didn't know where Trayvon was. I feel that this is because Trayvon was not supposed to leave the house. He was grounded because he was suspended. But he waited until he father left, and skipped out himself. And his father would be furious. Trayvon Martin, because of his suspensions, was a powderkeg waiting to blow. The stress on him and the rest of the family had to have been enormous.

So he gets to the store and buys Skittles. His supporters say he was "gunned down because he bought Skittles," but they don't understand what the Skittles are. They are his treasure, his trophy. He was told to stay home because he was grounded, but he skipped out and went to the store and bought Skittles. He is 17, and no one can tell him what to do.

The next time we have a record of Trayvon, it is from Zimmerman. Part of Zimmerman's report is that he is "walking between the townhouses rather than using the sidewalk as most people would". Why would Trayvon not use the sidewalk? It is next to the street, and dad could come home any minute. He was hiding from his father, because he wasn't supposed to be going anywhere. Zimmerman considers his behavior suspicious, but that's because it is. He is sneaking around his father's back, and acts like it. Zimmerman picks up on it.

Zimmerman and Trayvon finally confront, and the powderkeg explodes. Why? Because Trayvon realises that someone knows he is outside the house, can expose him, and bring his whole world down on him.

Normally a person could just explain what he is doing, but Trayvon can't, because he can't let it get back that he is outside the house. So he runs first. And then he panics and makes an awful decision. Zimmerman is the only person who knows he is not where he is supposed to be. If he beats sensless/kills Zimmerman, he can get back to the house before his dad with no one the wiser. So he doubles back, and attacks Zimmerman. But Zimmerman is armed. and kills Zimmerman.

As shocking as it appears the Trayvon may have been willing to kill Zimmerman for such an apparantly small reason, we are just beginning to see what the family has papered over, to see the real stress in the family over Trayvon's behavior problems.
