Muslim Marriage Guide OKs Wife Beating

A popular marriage guide that has sold out in one Toronto bookstore is gaining media attention because of the book's controversial focus—how to beat and control your wife.

The book, titled "A Gift for the Muslim Couple," is written by Hazrat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi, who, according to the book's foreword, is a "prolific writer on almost every topic of Islamic learning."

In the book's opening, Thanvi writes that "It might be necessary to restrain her [one's wife] with strength or even to threaten her."

Later, Thanvi enumerates the rights of the husband, which include forbidding his wife to leave "his house without his permission," having his wife "fulfill his desires," and insisting that he "not allow herself to be untidy . . . but should beautify herself for him."

Even more controversial are the measures available to a husband if his wife is disobedient. Fortunately, the book notes that a husband should "refrain from beating her excessively," but he is permitted to "beat by hand or stick," "pull [her] by the ears," verbally scold her, or withhold money.

The Toronto Sun wrote about the book after a reader stumbled into it while browsing in a local shop.

The popularity of this book, which is also available on online Islamic bookstores and eBay, is all the more troubling in light of the many cases of Muslim honor killings and assaults that have surfaced recently.

Some nitwit right here in FR just yesterday, in regards to a story from England about child brides as young as 5 years old, said something along the lines of “you can’t blame Islam, just because some people do bad things”.

That’s BS.

Islam is the blame.
Islam is the problem.
Islam is the evil.
Islam is the wrong.

It is probably a waste of time to ask this, but lets not slam just on Islam. This is a wrong, no matter what religion it is done under.

I'm pulling this quote in from another thread (Forced marriage: Girl aged five among 400 minors helped) but I think it's relevant to this thread because I want to ask EnglishCon, is this another example of something for which we shouldn't "slam just on Islam"?

Just curious.

(And if I'm misunderstanding your original quote, please tell me where I'm wrong. But the way I'm reading it, you're basically saying Islam is not the problem. While I, on the other hand, most definitely see Islam as the #2 problem on planet earth [close second, very close second, to socialism].)

In the Islamic world, females are a specialized form of beast of burden, somewhat below horses and camels, but well above donkeys and goats. Females are ALL treated as “dhimmi”, allowed to live in the world of the Noble Islamic Gentlemen, but always on probation, as they cannot ever aspire to become any kind of equal to even the grubbiest and shabbiest male Muslim devotee.

In the world of male chauvinist pigs, the Noble Islamic Gentlemen stand head and shoulders above all the rest. They claim to “love” their women, but keep in mind, men everywhere give love to get sex, while women give sex to get love.

The Noble Islamic Gentlemen have raised this emotional trade to an art form, often surrendering to their baser natures and injecting large elements of deviant behavior into their efforts to assure they get love. If this means they beat the living daylights out of a woman, it is only to assuage those boiling passions. He really does love her.

In much of the Western world, this will get you jailed. Or at the very least, served with papers.

No worries.

I was both tired and upset when I wrote that line. My meaning was along the lines of “Let’s not just say, Muzzies, what you gonna do” but to ask people to talk about it honestly.

I am consistantly amazed and impressed by the range of talent and skills here. I detest child abuse with every fiber of my being, and I honestly don’t care who is doing it. It was a case of wanting to discuss a reprehensible act.

Know thy enemy is a truism, and a lot of the time here, they get dismissed as stone age barbarians, like it is simply a given. That excuses evil.

My thanks for the ping.

You might want to check your reading comprehension.

Sorry about the nitwit remark. I posted that before I actually went back and dug up the original thread.

I overreacted. I was wrong to do that.

But I’m still not sure if what your saying can be interpreted in some way as giving Islam a pass.

I am very adamantly opposed to giving Islam a pass for anything.

But I was wrong to call names and I’m sorry.

In the Sahih Bukhari hadieths... the muslim’s creator made females deficiant in intelligence & religion. I wonder why muslim men capatilize on it with beatings? Ain’t that picking on the handicapped?

They are just following the example of Mohammod. In Islam, Mo is the Perfect Man, who should be emulated in every way.

Mo beat his child bride Aisha, therefore it is good to beat your wives: Hadith Book 004, Number 2127

Muhammad b. Qais said (to the people): Should I not narrate to you (a hadith of the Holy Prophet) on my authority and on the authority of my mother? We thought that he meant the mother who had given him birth. He (Muhammad b. Qais) then reported that it was 'A'isha who had narrated this: Should I not narrate to you about myself and about the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him)? We said: Yes. She said: When it was my turn for Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) to spend the night with me, he turned his side, put on his mantle and took off his shoes and placed them near his feet, and spread the corner of his shawl on his bed and then lay down till he thought that I had gone to sleep. He took hold of his mantle slowly and put on the shoes slowly, and opened the door and went out and then closed it lightly. I covered my head, put on my veil and tightened my waist wrapper, and then went out following his steps till he reached Baqi'. He stood there and he stood for a long time. He then lifted his hands three times, and then returned and I also returned. He hastened his steps and I also hastened my steps. He ran and I too ran. He came (to the house) and I also came (to the house). I, however, preceded him and I entered (the house), and as I lay down in the bed, he (the Holy Prophet) entered the (house), and said: Why is it, O 'A'isha, that you are out of breath? I said: There is nothing. He said: Tell me or the Subtle and the Aware would inform me. I said: Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be ransom for you, and then I told him (the whole story). He said: Was it the darkness (of your shadow) that I saw in front of me? I said: Yes. He struck me on the chest which caused me pain, and then said: Did you think that Allah and His Apostle would deal unjustly with you? She said: Whatsoever the people conceal, Allah will know it. He said: Gabriel came to me when you saw me. He called me and he concealed it from you. I responded to his call, but I too concealed it from you (for he did not come to you), as you were not fully dressed. I thought that you had gone to sleep, and I did not like to awaken you, fearing that you may be frightened. He (Gabriel) said: Your Lord has commanded you to go to the inhabitants of Baqi' (to those lying in the graves) and beg pardon for them. I said: Messenger of Allah, how should I pray for them (How should I beg forgiveness for them)? He said: Say, Peace be upon the inhabitants of this city (graveyard) from among the Believers and the Muslims, and may Allah have mercy on those who have gone ahead of us, and those who come later on, and we shall, God willing, join you.

Legalized discimination in college admissions, employment/promotions, and obtaining business loans is wrong; as long as women benefit from those laws & policies, I honestly couldn’t care less what some Muslim does to them.

They can use a government loan (subisidized by my tax dollars) to start up a business that legally hires only females so they can put their heads together and care about this issue.
