A Wisconsin man, who along with his three friends is suspected of illegally slaughtering as many as 100 deer in what prosecutors call an unprecedented "thrill-kill" spree, faces up to six months in jail.
Nathan Blaha, 20, of Hillsboro, Wis., and his accomplices allegedly wandered the backroads of Richland County in a pickup truck, stunning deer with a light before shooting them and leaving their carcasses to rot in what he called a contest to “get the most deer,” according to court documents.

In that case why don’t you quit whining about the deer and just sacrifice yourself...to sustain the starving blowfly population! The microbes would be eternally grateful also...as would many legitimate hunters who appreciate a full freezer for their families in hard times! SHEESH

I’m confuse’d about your statement! (Not really!) You have an over-population problem, yet still want someone else to solve it whom you don’t trust, want to put irrational conditions on it and charge them to do it on their own dime and time?!? Then you mention the sex and head gear restrictions, dumb, dumb, dumb! How about giving out of staters free licenses to come and harvest ALL and ANY animals not having antlers on their heads provided they haul the carcasses away for food? As an added inducement, you might let them dry camp at your lodge property for several days while they hunt, and relax any other silly rules you usually require, just in case they accidentally shoot one of your sacred ten-pointers!

You just highlighted your own personal problem...it’s terrible, but you refuse to consider viable alternatives, because of (list all the excuses)! I have suggested some but you folks balk at those: free licenses, bow hunters, unlimited doe harvests, etc., yet you still whine about it.

Didn't Clint Eastwood say in one of his westerns, worms gotta eat too...but thrill killing is wrong...Michigan has lots of deer and they cause car insurance to go up so many get hit by cars..My son in law got 2 at the same time, crossing the road together, my son hit one with his car, a friend got one and I have had 4 dead one's on my propery in the last 10 years and chase them out of the back yard when I see them heading for my flower gardens.
My son wants to hunt them on my property but I say no...so I guess I am a softy when it comes to that, but also don't want bullets, shotgun shells bow and arrows etc getting near my neighbors homes....

Let me give you an analogy that you might understand...you have a LARGE, diseased, unstable tree hanging over your neighbor’s house and you advertise for a tree service firm to remove this hazard, yet when he shows up and volunteers to remove the tree IF he can keep the firewood, YOU want to charge him for the “opportunity” to remove the tree And for the value of the firewood! Just stupid!!

You don't say how large a property you have. If it's large enough for legal hunting at all, shotguns or bow hunting should be okay. You can get pretty close to deer (too close!), so buckshot is effective, and it doesn't travel very far.
I can understand being a “softy” about killing the deer. That's part of the reason I am so disgusted with thrill killing and leaving the meat for the worms. The animals deserve some respect. If you eat the venison, you at least reduce the need to slaughter some other animals for meat.
Granny, I have always respected your opinion, but you are a loser on this one! If you want to “protect” all the wildlife destroying your property, then quit whining about it after they do that, eh??

I’m with you! There is the sport of hunting that carries with it the responsibility of using the rewards in an honorable manner. To advocate indescriminant killing while abandoning the harvest is immoral and (in most cases) illegal (excluding fire ants and rabid animals)! I’m sad that we have FReepers here who are so stupid as to NOT recognize the morality of protecting our natural rsources that don’t directly compete with our own survival!

When I lived in PA, I drove I79 through WV one fall. It looked like God had bombed the entire route with blood filled water balloons, every fifty yards or so. I guess when a semi tractor trailer hits a deer, it just explodes! My father-in-law says you never even feel it, you just hear the thump.
This was not hunting, and this had nothing whatsoever to do with wildlife management. This was a killing rampage, and it's disgusting that you applaud it.

Let me explain it to you this way. You folks that are hunting for horns, and states that are catering to you, are doing huge damage to the deer herd and people too. The deer population has exploded and it is up to cars and trucks to bring it under control? The number of deer hunters has dropped substantially in the past 30 years and many are antler snobs. I support letting you take as many as you like as long as you take out some does along the way.
Very few are hunting for meat (I can understand why) . Open up the limits and stop this mess
My one grandson got his first deer at 16 and last year got his first with a bow and arrow. So I am in no way against hunting. I really cannot give you a logical reason for not hunting on my property except with rifle the bullet can travel over a mile...
But when it comes to thrill killing by a couple of kids, to me that is a warning sign that there is something wrong with those kids...I am a big supporter of eating meat and know it doesn't come wrapped in styrfoam.
I can look out my back window and see deer frequently...usually doe's with fawns. Only once have I seen a nice buck with a good size rack, had to get out the binoculars to see him better, but around here buck aren't seen too much...
My granddaughter found one big one, dead by the stream when she took my dog for a walk. He must have gotten hit by a car as his back end was messed up really bad and I don't know how he managed to run approx. 600 feet from the road to the very back of my property....My son came out to get the antlers and he just kept mumbling while cutting them off, *damn I wish I had shot him* *he is good size*, etc you get the picture, but he had already started to smell. Last year I took a walk down to the stream and collected all the bones. The spine was still articulated except for about 3 vertibra...So I guess no other critters ate him.
But I do admit that I don't think I could ever kill one myself. I'll leave that up to others. Deer are so pletiful here in Michgan you always see them dead along the side of the road, but again not too many with racks, usually does...we probably need a couple of anlerless seasons.. Here in Michigan we can get some pretty good corn fed deer, the farmers aren't too pleased....:O)
I really didn't think I was whining. I have done my own killing but it was vermin like raccoons, rats and possum...I hate coons. When I had the farm they killed quite a few of my fowl...There have been a couple of freepers that took offense at my drowning them in my pond, but I informed them that coons have little lungs and only a couple of gasps and they are dead...the live trap with a rope attached did the trick as in some area's of the pond the water was over 10 foot deep...
Only had to shoot one, that was the year the pond dried up due to a neighbor pumping out his 10 acre 20 foot deep pond, he sold construction sand by the truck load and a lot of us had our wells dry up...it had a high water table and myself and 3 others had to have a new well dug....
It took a couple of years for the ponds to refill.....
You definitly don’t want rifle hunting on your property — the bullets could be lethal for a mile or more. OTOH, the lethal range of buckshot would only be about 100 yards (200 yards, to be on the safe side). That’s probably still too close for your neighbours on 41/2 acres. Around here, it’s not legal to hunt within a mile of a residence; so you would need to check your local regulations.
I agree with you — such wanton thrill killing is a bad sign. I wouldn’t want these guys in my neighbourhood.
When the deer population is under control, it is nice to occasionally see them in the back yard.
