The one bloc Republicans really need to win, is the one bloc they refuse to pander to: White voters.

But loose talk about building moats (stocked with alligators, no less) along the nation’s southern border, enforcing laws designed for ethnic profiling, and “self-deportation”

This "loose talk" is just as likely to win voters as lose the mythical Latino Republican vote (fairly constantly 60/40 in favor of the Dems).

The Wall Street Journal and the Chamber of Commerce types may love open borders, the American people do not.

All the sob stories about laws such Arizona's 1070 are precisely because self-deportation does happen. It is not the idea of self-deportation that is insane but current immigration policy (both legal and the attitude to illegal immigration).

I don’t agree that we “need” a Hispanic VP but only 2 Hispanic Republicans are serious contenders for the job and both are conservatives. Rubio, and Governor Martinez.

And Rubio helps pick up Florida, --a state Republicans cannot win without.
