School cafeterias to require fruits and vegetables nationwide (Fines for Kids not complying)

Beginning next school year, students across the country may be in for a shock when they purchase their lunch in the cafeteria.

In an effort to fight childhood obesity and diabetes, the federal government is requiring students of all ages to buy at least one serving of fresh fruit or vegetable for lunch. Even if they toss the produce into the garbage.

Fresh fruit and vegetable portions will double next year. “Some students don’t take one now, but they will have to,” Eileen Faustich, Milford’s food services director, said Friday. “We can’t let a child go by the cashier without a fruit or vegetable on their tray.”

There’s more, a lot more, in the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act.

Next year, students can buy only nonfat flavored milk or 1 percent white milk. Half of the grains must be “whole” next year. In 2013-14, all products must be whole grain. School cafeterias must offer green and orange leafy vegetables, and drastically reduce sodium use over the next three years. Trans-fats are banned.

If a student refuses to take the fruit or vegetable, the cafeteria employees will have to charge an a la carte fee, which typically is higher because the lunch will not be reimbursable under federal guidelines.

Why not require jogging?

It’s healthy and would lower medical costs, right?

You know what? The Left is VERRRRY comfortable with use of force —extravagantly so.

Which US political party send a whole ethnic group to PRISON as a matter of policy...?

Milford teachers look like a herd of fat cows. Better if their lunches were monitored.

The food is FREE! Now the commies can tell you what to eat that’s FREE.

I suspect some kids will do what I did when I had had enough of the cafeteria swill in high school - sneak off campus and hit a fast food joint or local quick eatery. My senior year I used to hit this little Cantonese place at least twice a week for the lunch buffet.

Never on a Friday, though. On Fridays we’d usually hang out in my buddy’s van and split a six-pack of Mickey’s widemouths. Made study hall a heck of lot more fun, I tell ya. :-)

Homeschool if at all possible. Go to Amazon and purchase Charlotte Iserbyt ‘s book, The DELIBERATE DUMBING DOWN OF AMERICA, to fully understand WHY... Her new updated edition is great. Share it with school committees and legislators and other concerned parents.
Parents, please take back your children from the STATE..

Forget taxes. The left has decided to force you to spend your own money on things they want.

Woohoo... individual mandate... Romney loves it too

How is this any different from the government
forcing you to buy insurance?

Answer, it’s not.

The kids get used to it and then don’t think any
thing of it as adults.

We are being played.

This has nothing to do with health anyway. Veggies in schools are usually boiled to death and all traces of vitamins are gone. The fruit is canned in heavy syrup for increased sugar and carbs. This is beyond stupid and what’s worse is, most parents will agree and say, “I’m glad because you never eat enough veggies”etc.

In the 1960’s in grade school in Mesa, AZ (before the Feds took over completely) a teacher used to inspect our trays at the exit door. If our veggies were still there, the teacher would send us back to a table until we ate them.

We just stuff the veggies into our milk carton.

I think somebody should tell Scalia.

SCALIA: “Could you define the market — everybody has to buy food sooner or later, so you define the market as food, therefore, everybody is in the market; therefore, you can make people buy broccoli.”

VERRILLI: “No, that’s quite different. That’s quite different. The food market, while it shares that trait that everybody’s in it, it is not a market in which your participation is often unpredictable and often involuntary. It is not a market in which you often don’t know before you go in what you need, and it is not a market in which, if you go in and — and seek to obtain a product or service, you will get it even if you can’t pay for it.”

If there is any way you can homeschool your kids ... do it!

"Why not require jogging?"

If you are made to jog, you will be required to move through "bad areas" where you will be the regular target for robbery and beatings by Holder's people.

“This is literally the issue of whether the federal government can force a person to buy broccoli.”

A good example of how upholding Obamacare would be applied. People might have laughed at this “example” a while back, but nothing’s funny anymore with this bunch of dictators.

Next up...a national discussion of whether carrots or broccoli should be the dominant vegetable at all schools with the carrot and broccoli lobbies in full assault mode in DC.

Local schools boards need not attempt to state their preference...Kathleen Sebellius and Moochelle will make the big decision on everyone's behalf.
