Gingrich to Romney: Pick Conservative Platform
NBC ^ | April 2, 2012 | Alex Moe

Posted on 04/02/2012 10:13:09 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Newt Gingrich unveiled a new message to Mitt Romney Monday morning during a campaign stop in Maryland: if the former Massachusetts governor does become the Republican nominee, pick a conservative platform.

But speaking on the eve of three primaries that could potentially seal the Republican nomination in Romney’s favor, Gingrich vowed to only exit the race if a candidate gets the required delegates.

““I will be going to Tampa, Callista and I will both be going to Tampa, because we are going to fight for a conservative platform,“ Gingrich said. “He [Romney] has to win 1,144 uncontested delegates. At that point, the question is going to become, if he wants our support in the general election, let’s talk about the platform and it better be a solid, 21st century conservative platform based on sound principles that we can stick to.”

Gingrich, speaking to a couple of hundred people at a Ford dealership in western Maryland, noted that he took the recent Etch A Sketch comments from Romney’s communication director “very seriously” and worried that “clever” consultants would hinder a platform conducive to more conservative Republicans.

The former House Speaker also argues the former governor is being awarded too many delegates from Florida, Arizona, and Idaho because the states are supposed to be proportional by RNC rules.

Campaign spokesman R.C. Hammond tells NBC News that the campaign has sent letters to those states' Republican Parties to correct the errors.

.........One topic Gingrich loves to talk about -- the court system in America -- came up Monday morning, as well.

Perhaps in an appeal to the Tea Party attendees in the audience with “don’t tread on me” flags, Gingrich launched a new attack on Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg for her comments on the U.S. constitution.....

I don’t understand the shilly shallying about all this. Newt is closer to Palin’s way of thinking than any other Conservative running.... why she hasn’t endorsed Newt yet I will never know.

She has to make that move to clarify the situation and SOON!! If she waits to the last instant to endorse one of those other two, it won’t do either HER or THEM any good!

It’s almost too much to hope for!!

No, it isn't - just keep hoping, please don't give up. In my little universe any person of any party or persuasion that I have had the time to introduce to Newt properly and with some depth is now supporting him. Hands down, no going back. He has the message. We have to get the message out.

If you have time, you can make calls at the national phone banks... they help a lot and often change minds... Just 5-10 a day can make a BIG difference, and take less than an hour. The people of FR are very passionate and persuasive!

[Now is not time to give up, not if you truly believe in Newt, not if you believe we can still make a difference. The odds are against us, and the trail is long. NOW IS NO TIME TO GIVE UP...]

I hear you, but in the last few days, and watching Obama rise in the polls because in part because of the difficulties with this Primary, I am starting to lean towards getting this over with with as soon as possible.

Excellent post. Newt is the ONLY true conservative running..that is a sad fact. Does Newt have a vision? absolutely and he can see right through Mitt Romney. I blame Rush and other so called conservatives for not backing Gingrich. They all talk the talk but like Obama they do not walk the walk. Damn disgrace that the republican party is moving so far left...Reagan would roll over in his grave.

PS..I always look for Cincinatus' Wife and YOUR posts

I know how you feel, and it is not to be minimized. But try not to give into it. Take a few days off, even a week, if need be, recharge, go on a politics or news fast, replenish yourself and then come back to the battlefield. We all have our thresholds. You're a psycho, man, don't go absolutely sane on us... :) Get a second wind...

RE "I blame Rush and other so called conservatives for not backing Gingrich." -- If they truly believed what they said when they say over and over, this is the most important election of our lifetime, America may never survive an Obama victory, then they would stop doing things the same way they have done every year before this... get out of their comfort zones, get on the battlefield, and put themselves on the line... risk a little for the republic.

This is no time for playing it safe and they are all doing just that. There is no leadership in the conservative media, which is one large common denominator in the conservative populace. While the dems and MSM march in lockstep. Sigh.

Thanks. I look for yours, CW, onyx, and VinL posts... I feel safe therein... :)

And they will cry the loudest when we get stuck with another 4 years of Obama.

Amen.

People please don't give in to the media-Follow your convictions and don't accommodate the people like Rove and Morris and the frauds we see who play to be a conservative. If you want a dramatic force of change; you and me can have it-we can force the party into seeing that we do not accept Romney as the leader of the republican party. If we want Newt and Palin, we are going to have to make it happen. Palin has already said that she would step in to give a servant's heart for her country. Alot of people, on our side, did not believe in her so she was left standing. Many of us see now who is the kingmaker for reforms ( Newt and Palin-Palin could turn this entire election around over night-got to let her know how much that we need her. Best motivation for turn out. We are never going to have change, if we go along with the TV people who are setting the agenda of helping Romney. Romney will not win without all factions of the conservative movement. One thing about a conservative, they know when broken promises keep coming. People, we have the power to make things uncomfortable for the ruling class. Keep fighting to the convention so we have a chance for a better candidate.

This election should have been an easy win for any decent conservative candidate. The gopE did not learn much from the last elecion. Same good ole boys’ club running the show.

I know what you mean about Rush and the rest of talk radio. I think it boils down to what’s best for their bank accounts. None of them ever put themselves on the line when it counts. Talk is cheap.

Personally, I think if they had taken a stand for the obvious best candidate, Newt, they would have increased their standing with their listeners. Even those who may have supported other candidates would have respected a well reasoned endorsement.
