It was Thursday morning and several dozen owners of the new Chevrolet Volt had gathered at a restaurant overlooking the East River. Across town, the New York International Auto Show was in full swing. The Volt, of course, is the innovative electric car from General Motors, and G.M. was using the occasion of the auto show to meet with Volt owners.
Between bites of eggs and bacon, the Volt owners gushed about how well the car drove and how much gasoline they were saving. They were early adopters, of course, willing to pay a high price ($40,000 before a $7,500 tax credit) to get their hands on a new technology. Many of them had become nearly obsessed with avoiding the gas station; for those with short commutes, it could be months between fill-ups.
What is the connection between President Obama and the Volt? There is none. The car was the brainchild of Bob Lutz, a legendary auto executive who is about as liberal as the Koch brothers. The tax credit which is part of the reason conservatives hate the car became law during the Bush administration.
Its nuts, said Lutz, when I spoke to him earlier in the week. This is a significant achievement in the auto industry. There are so many legitimate things to criticize Obama about. It is inexplicable that the right would feel the need to tell lies about the Volt to attack the president.

>>I don't know anyone that can drop 40K on a toy car.
Just more crap in the elitist sandwich from Mr. New World Order & Co.
Lutz is in the right place with GM. Anyone who buys a MIG-17 and lands at Willow Run forgetting to put the wheels down deserves to work for GM. Not sure who he was with at the time though it’s been a few years.
“Uuuuhhh, one group of “voters” I did not see on your list is the dead...just saying!”
The dead are included among those zombies from the horror movies who make it to the polls.
Just saying. (lol)
Mittens does suck and will be a complete and total disasters as the nominee.
I can't support him. It's someone else or obama wins.
End of story.
I have been reading about the Spanish Armada and how the British used fire ships. Maybe there’s a place for the Volt as a weapon. Put them in Afghanistan, and when they catch fire, roll them into a house.
So how does such a gathering come to take place?
Are there already Volt Clubs? I haven't even seen one on the road that I know of. For many years I owned an MG. We used to flash our lights at each other when we saw one-another, but I never got together with any of these other MG owners for breakfast.

I don't think it means anything. I used to be a religious Times reader. Now I almost never look at it. It's not really a newspaper. It's more like a big newsletter put out by the DNC, so sure the DNC member commenters are going to say the stupid things.
I see the Times finally commented on the "homework" assignment the Fifth Circuit Court gave the Obama Administration. I wonder if Times readers were at all mystified why they didn't know such an assignment had been given, or given the required brevity of the response demanded, the Times didn't think it was important to quote the whole thing.
The NY Times is an absolute joke, and a disgrace too.

The writer is clueless. I am boycotting GM forever because of the corrupt bailout in which centuries of common law, contract law, and bankruptcy law were ignored to give GM assets to well-connected liberal groups, such as the UAW, at the expense of the bondholders who were legally and morally entitled to be paid far more than they received. This was a disgusting crime, and I find the idea of benefiting from such an act repulsive. All decent people should be outraged and should avoid all GM products forever.
As for the Volt in particular, it's such a terrible imitation of a real vehicle that in an honest world it would have stayed as a concept car until the engineers made it practical. None of this has anything to do with Obama personally. While I despise Obama and see signs of national socialism rather than his usual soviet socialism in his dealings with the auto industry, my objection to GM and to the Volt is moral rather than political.
