Special IDF units preparing for mass Lebanon incursion if war breaks out with Hezbollah

Almost six years after the Second Lebanon War, special Israeli units are preparing to take part in mass incursions into Lebanon if another round of fighting with Hezbollah breaks out. Just as important, they are being trained to heed the legal implications.

Officers say the Israel Air Force would destroy targets like training bases and rocket-launching pads within a few days, based on the intelligence gathered by the Israel Defense Forces. But this would not be enough, so a ground offensive would be necessary. "When you stick an [Israeli] flag [on enemy territory], there's no question who won," says a high-ranking officer who requested anonymity. "You need to seize a geographic space. This is the only way the concept of victory can be established."

The IDF has a “leaker” somewhere in their command structure.

Um, the leaker may be soiling OUR White House. Little barry bastard is no friend of Israel. The IDF could use his hatred of them to trap the islime vermin by ‘sharing’ data with the lying commie fraud which he would quickly pass to his Hamas/Hez/etc islamics. Things are about to get much worse in this world because we the people were not vigilant and allowed a lying fraud to ascend to the presidency on affirmative action skids. I’m afraid we are about to reap what we have sown ...

This constant “leaking” information is starting to becoming a national security risk.

After watching the history of Israel Defense Forces and the politicos for so many years (not to mention what we know of Mossad ops), I believe this is disinformation. IDF has always been sly about diversion.

Israel and all it's freedom-loving people will not go down without killing a sh*t-load of barbaric Islamists. I believe when they say, "Never Again!", and I support them fully.

Thank you for all the military articles you post. I've learned a lot from your articles and the replies.

From the article:
"The IDF has been trying to improve its performance if hostilities resume, but so has Hezbollah. The Shi'ite organization has built fortified lines with underground command posts and improved operational capacity. Its rockets are hidden in better-camouflaged launching pads.
The ground forces are therefore expected to contribute much more to the war effort than in 2006, when Israel relied mainly on the IAF. This would entail much more intense urban warfare, with many civilians caught in the crossfire, and the attendant legal implications."

Why should they give a f**k about "legal implications" if their innocent peace-loving citizens are facing death and possibly extinction? The United (socialists) Nations passes resolution time and again against Israel.

Is Israel now SO concern about world opinion and willing to forfeit its existence? I don't think so. This article is major BS.

""Everything that we've seen with the flotillas, Operation Cast Lead and the implications in terms of international law have left a strong impression on us," says Lt. Col. Sahar Abergil, commander of the special elite unit Yahalom. That unit specializes in bunker warfare and is likely to carry much of the military burden.
"I hope we'll take [international law] into account during the fighting," Abergil says.

Still looks like disinformation to me. I don't believe the high command of IDF cares much about "international law" when it comes to defending Israel. If so, western civilization is lost in the cesspool of the middle-east.

My money is still on Israel killing the Iran nuclear machine.

And with Romney now apparently taking the Primary we can be assured Obama gets another four. We are in more than a heap of trouble now.

They have said repeatedly..."Never again"....so they've certainly made clear they mean just that.

With Romney getting pretty much the go ahead then Obama wins...so looks like God's allowing the nations to move forward in their agendas and we won't be much help if any in stopping it from coming together....we'll be deep in trouble ourselves.

Why should they give a f**k about "legal implications"....

Precisely. In 2006, Israel was hopeful the Lebanese would sieze the opportunity during that conflict to rid themselves of the Syrian/Hezbollah/Iranian presence in their country. Unfortunately, that did not occur. They attempted to execute surgical strikes in known Hezbollah areas in Beruit and Southern Lebanon, while leaving the general infrastructure intact.

At the conclusion of that conflict, Israel plainly stated the next time would be different. Given the state of the Lebanese government (essentially a Hezbollah run Iranian terror arm), you can believe that's true. I sincerely doubt commanders will give a damn about "legal implications" surrounding their tactics. Gloves will be off and the people of Lebanon will regret squandering the lost opportunity of 6 years ago.

Oh yes, remember “Green Helmet Guy” from 2006?

It is clear that the IDF squandered an opportunity in Lebi due to media & UN pressure and all that. Looks like they won’t make that politician’s error a second time.

Then there were the `human wave protests’ of, was it last year? Bused in from Syria to the Israel border?

Maybe it was Sultan Knish who pointed out that there’s a cycle of warfare in ME that is driven by lack of food and a threshhold demographic of surplus unemployed womanless young Muslim males. The oligarchs, be they secular tyrants or bearded mullahs send their excess into the meat grinder against Israel or each other, and voila, problem mitigated and the ruling classes keep their wealth, power, & prostitutes. Syria is addressing their surplus problem internally. In those societies, life is truly cheap.

In any case, the IDF will be ready to oblige as necessary.

The IDF should create bombs to be dropped on these bunkers which contain “Great Stuff” which would expand to 100 times their size, and glue them into their bunkers. It’d take them years to chain saw their way out, assuming their air shafts aren’t compromised in the bombardment.

Leaky White House is a headwind. When one must go forward despite a headwind, one either tacks and lowers the keel, breaks out the oars, or gets an internal combustion engine so the wind is no longer needed.
