Police Find 5 ‘Horrified’ Nearly Naked BU Students In Fraternity House

BOSTON (CBS) – Five nearly naked college students were found shivering in a Brighton basement Monday, tied together with duct tape.

Boston Police say they found the group terrified and humiliated. There were also signs the Boston University students may have been beaten.

The early morning raid left police officers stunned.

No one answered the door at 24 Ashford Street Monday night, but when police responded early Monday morning, they found the male students circled in the basement, stripped to their underwear.

Police responded to the house after a call about a loud party.

According to police:

“All five were shivering and had horrified and fearful looks on their faces. They were all tied together via duct tape wrist to wrist to form a human chain. Officer asked if they were alright and got no verbal answer. Victim looked right at Officer and with tears coming down his face shook his head from right to left and back indicating no.”

Police say several condiment-type items were poured on the students, including flour, coffee grinds, fish sauce, chili sauce, honey, hot sauce, mustard, and empty sardine cans.

The students also had red welts on their backs, investigators said, indicating that they may have been beaten.

Police say it’s an underground fraternity, Alpha Epsilon Pi.

A Boston University spokesperson told WBZ-TV that members of the same unrecognized fraternity were already under investigation for a previous incident.

Last month, the school cut ties with a sorority on Ashford Street after another alleged hazing incident.

“We hold all of our students accountable for any violation of the code of student responsibilities, whether it happens on or off campus. We are very concerned for the alleged victims,” B.U. spokesman Colin Riley said in a statement.

There were no arrests, but police are considering criminal charges.

It’s pretty funny to some unless it’s you or your child. A few prosecutions of these events as class one sexual assaults might take dome of the humor out of it for the perpetrators.

And no, I don’t lack a sense of humor, I just don’t think sadists should have a “get out of jail free” card

Just a prank to get Boston College’s Hockey team off the front page.

I have a feeling that a Pledge - Master and 1 or more Alpha Epsilon Pi members are soon to find out what jail pledge hazing is all about.

Alpha Epsilon Pi (ΑΕΠ or AEPi), the Global Jewish college fraternity, has 155 active chapters in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and Israel with a membership of over 9,000 undergraduates. Alpha Epsilon Pi is a Jewish fraternity, though non-discriminatory and open to all who are willing to espouse its purpose and values.

Your comment.

It's pretty funny to some unless it's you or your child.

Never a truer statement.

Expulsion for the perpetrators for a start should do- else sue the college. Probably get off squeaky clean, to keep the institution's "good name".

I’d recommend that college kids not join fraternities, sororities or attend their parties . . . as the old saying goes: I wouldn’t want to belong to any group that would have me as a member. I intentionally chose a college with the frat system because even at that young age I knew tribalism was something to avoid.

back in the olden days (when I was little) frats used to haze people to see if you could man-up enough to take it

Hazing was performed by older, responsible brothers who went through it themselves and so the shared experience formed a lifelong bond... not enjoyable, many can disagree.. but that was what it was

I was ‘hazed and hell no I am not going to tell you about it- but afterwards I learned there was always someone watching over us for our safety when we thought we were about to die, because they really did care- learning that was a revalation and bonding experience in itself

these days is is immature, stupid, and irresponsible children who saw or heard about a frat hazing and decided it was all about being cool and torturing others for the cheap thrill of it- not a brotherly experience at all

While it was nothing like this, the fraternity I was in tried to haze us. My pledge brothers and walked in to the exec board meeting, and said “You keep this up, and we will at best leave. You will go under if we do.” We won.

Never understood the sick tradition of this. But don't make yourself a victim.

Same here. It was a way of separating wimps from men. It was a good experience for me. Unfortunately, my chapter doesn't do it anymore because we got in trouble for hazing. So the "old ways" are gone at my chapter and it's just not the same anymore.

Having a good weekend doing impossible physical challenges, where the pledges get slightly humiliated, I understand.

Why it’s allowed to turn into a freaky sado-masochistic horror show, I don’t understand.

The whole fraternity should be disbanded and those responsible for running should be expelled, with the mark on their scholastic record for other post-secondary institutions should be able to see.

Back in the day, the individualists pledged Gamma Delta Iota (aka - G Damned Independents). Life gives us hazing enough, not to mention DI’s in Basic.

To complete Hell Week, instead of being annointed with food items, and left indoors, my fraternity then drove us 100 miles to the desert in the winter.

We were dropped between 5 and ten miles from the main highway, to walk back. We had some guys that cried, but none who quit.

Reaching the main highway at dawn, we had a dime to call for rides. We called family and friends, not the police.

Two fraternity members now serve as judges, on the county Superior Court. (This hazing stuff is supposed to be sacred secret).

Along with the entitlement society, goes inability to suffer challenges which build character.
