FOX News Radio just said that Santorum is going to announce a halt to his campaign within the hour. A rally in Gettysburg is said to have been changed to a press conference.

OK. I hear you, but I guess I;m questioning whether or not you're disgusted enough with Newt to roll over and accept Romney.

In this hour, I really think it boils down to this: we either exploit the limited opportunities we still have to end up with a GOP candidate who ISN'T Romney, or we acquiesce and accept our fate at the hands of the RINO GOP establishment.

Unless you believe Newt would be WORSE than Romney, I don't think the choice between them is hard to make.

A man takes care of his family; that’s what a man does. and if that’s the reason for him leaving then I have nothing but respect for him.

Hope he’ll back Newt. I’ll send Email to his campaign to that effect. All we can do is ask and suggest.

Battle’s not over, folks...and even if the battle was, the larger war for our Independence isn’t. It stops when we stop breathing....and then we pass it to the next generation to continue the fight.

If Romney gets it, then we shift to strengthening the House and re-taking the Senate, and KEEPING the State legislatures as much as possible.

2010 gave us 680+ House and Senate seats across the country.

That’s not chump change - that’s telling the “Chump” we’re going to “change” HIM.

Keep the faith.

Those men in that picture were AMERICANS...on both sides. We need to remember them, and NOT lose heart here. Those are OUR ancestors, OUR people, and OUR countrymen.

It is with no joy whatsoever that I say we’re stuck with Mitt Romney. Rick Santorum was our only real hope of stopping him but he didn’t have the resources to do so. Too bad, it was a good try.

Right now, Romney and the conservative grass roots are in a Mexican standoff. We can’t get rid of Obama without a Republican victory in November. Romney can’t be elected President without the conservative grass roots. Under no circumstances should we give Romney our unconditional support. I don’t like Mitt Romney. I refuse to support him in the Republican primary. But it’s possible that by being open to supporting him in the general election, we can shake down some conservative commitments. Frankly, that is our only chance at denying Obama four more years to destroy this country.

Rush today and Levin tonight was on this topic. We are going to go nowhere in this standoff if Milt doesn’t make very heavy concessions to the Conservatives immediately. He bought his way to the top with an outrageous slash and burn campaign never seen before in a GOP Primary. There are a LOT of hurt feelings. That is why 60% of the vote has gone against him so far.

Milt and the GOPe have intentionally marginalized and ridiculed us as their campaign model. I don’t see how he brings the two parties together. He is an incompetent campaigner and has nothing to offer us.

Levin made the great point that if Milt is such a great leader, he should prove it by quickly rebuilding the Reagan coalition he so quickly destroyed this Primary.

Yep. And it ROYALLY sucks. But now people either deal with it or take 4 more years of Obama and then there will be nothing left to save IF there are elections in 2016.

Rick Perry ain't looking so bad now. Hell, Jeb Bush would be MUCH better than Mittens.

Personally, I'm absolved of staining my soul because I'm in the “Bluest” of “Blue” states and my vote, IF I were to vote “for” Mittens, would be wiped out by 3-4 Obama votes.

Like one of my old timer friends told me: “I'd vote for a f**kin’ dead housefly than Obama.” Vote or don't vote wisely. Agonizing over Mittens on FR will not be tolerated by JR, so folks need to do what they feel is right in their own silent place.

What a ride.

It is odd, because just the other day, I re-listened to two early debates when the field was full, and Santorum by far was the best, I get the feeling when Ronnie Reagan was urged on down from the gallery seats at the GOP Convention in Kansas City (Kemper Arena) in 1976 to give a rallying speech for Conservative Values--though a moderate, Ford--had just clinched the nomination with RNC/Establish and MSM backing. Without notes, with passion, Reagan gave a tear jerker, one of the best speeches ever even in defeat, with a positive, forward-looking tone, there were actually Ford Delegates on the floor who were reported as having said "my goodness, we just nominated the wrong man!" (against Carter).

There will be other battles. Nice fighting with you. I am proud to have supported the two best candidates this cycle, Herman Cain and then Rick Santorum, equally hated by the MSM as they both in their own ways did not fit their MSM/Establishment narrative of what an "acceptable" GOP nominee would be. 0 for 2, what can you say. Losing is sometimes the entre to winning.

As for me? Well. I will consider Newt Gingrich in due time as a final effort to stop this Romney character, IF his more petty and obnoxious supporters here on FR also "suspend", and knock off the over-victorious, arrogant St. Vitus' Dance and the very tired "Little Ricky", unproductive schtick. We will just have to see.

When Bachmann and Perry dropped out, I kept my big mouth shut (though I knew instantly it mean “more votes for our side”). I did not circle over like a vulture over the pickings, pushy-like urging them within the first 24 hours to get behind Cain or Santorum. I believe I understand decorum and honor on the battlefield, particularly when it is internecine and we somehow have to join again in the future to fight some common enemy and evil. I am honored by your words. There are some on here in other camps, too, who demonstrated manners and fought a good, clean fight with us, so my hat is off to them. Man it hurts.

Thanks Clintonfatigued. Of course, for months now I've seen "stalking horse for Romney" directed at Santorum. And sometimes at Gingrich.

You guys are the best! Class acts all of you..and quite a contrast to the Newties who have spewed hate here for the past couple of months.

I agree with parksstp. You say you intensely dislike Mittens, Jim, but you have not lifted one finger to actually stop Romney get the nomination or defend Rick, even when you knew there was no hope for your favored candidate. And you allowed the Newt supporters to get away with unbelievably vicious attacks on him without consequences.
One choice Freeper even said last week that Rick was a jerk for not being home with his daughter because she will die at any moment.

I finally went to We Pick Rick on FB and Rick’s Army, which have been populated by honest, caring, Christian Santorum supporters.

Free Republic has deteriorated to the point of being unrecognizable, populated with trolls and former Conservatives, some anonymous cowards.

You know who you are and all I can say is that you really must hate yourselves. I feel sorry for you.

For those of you Rick supporters whom I didn’t mention above, I apologize.
It’s been a challenge staying here, hasn’t it?
But I felt compelled to respond to some of the mis-characterizations and lies about Rick., even though I knew the predictable responses were coming. I’ve been called a troll, a loser, a liar and many other nasty names.
But in the end, it just made me stronger knowing that I was fighting alongside Rick.

I’ve had the honor of meeting and spending time with members of the Santorum family several times recently when he campaigned in WI..as well being with his wonderful volunteers.

If any of you have also had the privilege, you know that they are some of the nicest people you’ve ever met: Heartfelt loving grassroots American patriots of integrity, deep faith and open hearts.

Good people surrounding themselves with good people.
I’m proud to have been a part of the effort. Hopefully and with God’s will, Rick Santorum will stay active and give hope to those of us who are true Conservatives and don’t have representation right now.
As far as I’m concerned, it’s still Game On for Rick’s Army!(PS: Parksstp: come on over).

But it’s Newt who lost it for himself. He should have never run in this primary, knowing his past would catch up to him. And “big ideas” just aren’t enough to be the winning message.
