Hey, if we're going to write in a candidate, how about Sarah Palin?

This was my plan if Newt or Sweater Vest didn't best Mittens - although I'm not convinced that a brokered convention is impossible yet - but, if it is Mittens, it might be better to go with a Constitution Party candidate. Someone who is actually on all the state's ballots. Sarah said she'd support the GOPe nominee. I wish to heck she'd run 3rd party.

Dearest you, Yaelle, old pal, old buddy...LOL. G-d works in very mysterious ways. I am pondering the next move of Mr. Adelson. IIRC, he previously said he would throw his support to Romney, when Newt faded and Newt has surely faded, but never dropped and has said all along he would never drop, and here we are.

I just want Romney stopped and a brokered convention.

Praying for that miracle.

The only Republican in the past 120+ years who has been able to oust a Democrat President was Ronald Reagan, and he didn’t do it by being a Romney-style moderate. He did it with bold colors, not pale pastels.

No serious person really believes that Mitt Romney will do anything to attempt the kind of reforms that we need. If anything, he’ll slow things down.

The big Republican victories of recent years — 1980, 1994, and 2010 — were achieved by running as unabashed conservatives. Candidates like Ford, Dole, and McCain lose — and that’s the kind of Republican that Romney is. Don’t believe it? Look around him — personnel is policy.

Obama just got re-elected.

Is reassuring Obama’s re-election the best scenario for the USA?

Voting is a civic duty is it not? How does throwing a tantrum and taking your ball and going home because you didn’t get your way beneficial to the country? I thought that part of being an adult or a good citizen was sometimes having to make decisions out of less than perfect options.

Yes, I have heard all of the arguments. NO MORE!! blah, blah blah. Or the better one, someone like Newt or Romney will make things worse and then it will get blamed on the GOP.

Those are all strawman arguments. One, I do not think that Romney could be worse than Zero. I definitely don’t support him. But if given the choice between him and Zero, I choose Romney. At least with him there is a snowball’s chance of getting something done to fix this mess, even more so with a GOP House and Senate. With Zero, there is no chance, no matter who controls the House and Senate. Not to mention the fact the we WILL lose the SCOTUS for a generation or two. And we know that Romney is a US citizen and does not hate this country.

Obviously, we all need to support our candidate in the primaries. But in the general election, we MUST be rid of Obama. If not, we can all pat ourselves on the back and gloat about how “principled” we are as the country we love circles the drain.

Besides, I do not know why sitting out the election if the “right” candidate (whatever that is) is not nominated considered the only position of principle. My position is also one of principle, defeat Obama. When I vote against Obama, I will be doing so with just as much principle as the person who withholds their vote because they didn’t get their way.

This is nothing personal towards you, it is just so frustrating to see this sentiment so prevalent on this site. Do you think the average voter thinks this way? They will vote one way or the other. If true blue Conservatives won’t support the GOP candidate, why should they? In the end, politics is the art of the possible.

You have to hand it to liberals and Fabian Socialists for one thing. They understand incrementalism. They seem to be smart enough to understand that in the real world you usually don’t get everything that you want in one fell swoop. Why can’t Conservatives understand this?

This thread certainly separates the wheat from the chaff. The chaff should be too busy working on Mitt’s campaign to post on FR anymore.

At least once Romney gets beaten this time, he’ll be retired like Dole and McCain. I’m wondering who the powers that be will come up with as a GOP candidate for 2016. Any more like Romney left?

Jim, with all due respect you have no one to blame for this calamity except for yourself. On February 8, Romney was effectively defeated for the nomination when Santorum won a trifecta and began his surge. But it seems protecting your pride and ego was more important that stopping Mitt Romney.

The Santorum supporters were out here day after day fighting in the rebellion. What exactly did you do when Rick came out as the leading conservative, if not on Super Tuesday, then after KS, AL, and MS? Did you do anything to help Rick? Nope, you helped split the vote because you wouldn’t back down from Newt.

In my opinion, you owe Rick Santorum and his supporters an explanation and an apology for your inaction. In fact, since June, I’ve watched your site destroy the likes of Bachmann, Cain, as well as Santorum with some of the most vicious attacks and remarks that would be more appropriate for DU and the HuffPost.

This Election was lost on February 22, 2012, the day of the Arizona debate. The fact Rick recovered at all was a miracle in itself. If conservatives had coalesced around him in MI, OH, AK, WI, and WA, Santorum would have won. Additionally, Rick would have gotten delegate majorities in AL and MS, but with Newt in the race, allowed Romney to pick up a 1/3 of the delegates. This was well known BEFORE these primary races, yet it was IGNORED. All this talk of some BS brokered convention that wasn’t going to happen because the math wasn’t there.

I fully explained what was happening when Santorum surged in February. Many conservative voters did not like or trust Newt to act on anything. Santorum was the last hope of many Bachmann, Cain, and Perry supporters. When other bitter Newt people started trashing Santorum and bringing his numbers down, I knew what was going to happen: those people were going to give up. The fact Rick recovered somewhat is a testament to his strength.

Despite the contrary remarks, Santorum and Newt pulled the same voting demographics; Conservative, Males, 30-50, under 100K Income, Tea Party Supporters, Evangelicals. The difference is Rick got much more in these categories and WAY more in women and Evangelicals than Newt. Compare that to Romney, who’s core base was Moderate/Liberal, Women, Seniors >65, over 100K Income, Hispanics/Asians, Oppose Tea Party. There is virtually no overlap with Rick/Newt voters and Romney voters. If any Newt people were voting for Romney, it was to spite Santorum, otherwise Santorum would have gotten almost all of Newt’s voters.

So Congratulations! You got what you wanted by sitting on the sidelines and refusing to help Santorum. With allies like this, it’s amazing ANY conservatives even bother to run at all. I’ve seen the writing on the wall. Eventually, Allen West, Marco Rubio, and eventually Sarah Palin will all get torn to shreds by so-called “conservatives” here calling them out for being RINOs.

I had high hopes for this election cycle last June. I really thought we had a chance of getting a conservative at the top of the ticket. But this website destroyed whatever hope I had. From the very beginning, the conservatives got ripped to shreds here. First it was Bachmann “Ed Rollins”, then Cain “Sexual Deviant”, Perry “Moron”, Santorum “Saint Rick, Sanctimonius, etc”, with all of them at one time or another being accused of being a stalking horse for Romney.
Yet, go back to MI, OH, AK, and WI and it is clear to see who the stalking horse really was.

Anyway, I’m out of here.

Look, I'm not defending Mitt's past actions...but I do think he has moved further to the right, and will stay there. Part of that is based on hope, I admit it, bugt also, he's a pragmatist, and knows which way the winds are blowing in the GOP..strongly conservative...

To those who correctly point out that his judical picks while Gov of Mass were, shall we say, from a conservative perspectgive..less than stellar, Mitt has said, that given the state of the sate of Mass..heavily Dem, heavily liberal, and the state legislature dominated by tghe Dems..his universe of possible choices, and especially those who could be confirmed, was severely limited...he may well have done the best possible.

And I do think that a much more conservative House and Senate will help shape Mitt's agenda..

No, Romney won’t pick conservatives for the highest court, but the alternative is Obama’s 3 new communists and Muslims.

I can see it now “The GOP is chosing to block my nominee who is the first top qualified MUSLIM female to be nominated to the Supreme Court”. GOP caves. We get Sharia law on the SCOTUS.

Now compare that to Romney.

Yes, Romney’s SCOTUS nominees will suck but they will not be the radical communist activists that Obama will chose. Think of 3 more people miles to the left of Bader Ginsberg. There are your new Obama nominees.

If Romney is the GOP-E nominee, I know that I am writing in Sarah Louise Palin. My state permits write-in votes. I want to make sure my vote will be recorded and published in the newspaper for posterity.

I am either choosing Col. West or Newt Gingrich for her V.P.

I think she planned to choose Col. West.

Check with Karl Rove's rolodex. Plenty like Romney left. Not many left of Romney though.

No matter what, the ONE thing Romney won’t do is declare war on whites.

That war has already been declared. And they don’t need the POTUS to continue it.
