Las Vegas Sands' Adelson Plans $35 Billion on Spain Casino Investment By REUTERS April 10, 2012

MACAU (Reuters) - Billionaire Sheldon Adelson said on Wednesday that he plans to spend $35 billion on a mini-Las Vegas strip in Spain, where he is courting the country's two top urban areas, Barcelona and Madrid, with plans for a casino complex.

Las Vegas Sands Corp Chairman and Chief Executive Adelson also said he was looking to build in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam.

Adelson was speaking at a press conference ahead of the opening of his new $4 billion casino property in Macau, the world's largest casino destination.

Las Vegas Sands said in February that it was studying an investment of as much as 15 billion euros ($20 billion) over 10 years in a casino complex in Spain, which would include 36,000 hotel beds, 18,000 slot machines and three golf courses.

You need to ask Adelson why he and his wife gave Newt $20m that went down a rat hole when he’s seeking to invest so much dough overseas? Could it be that he hated Santorum because Santorum wanted to shore up the US manufacturing base and disincentivize US investment abroad and he used Gingrich as a stalking horse to make it impossible for Santorum to stop Romney? Just asking.

I believe that Santorum is also against legalizing on-line gambling and expanding casino gambling in general.

You need to buy one of those extendable arms they sell at hardware stores so that the elderly can get things off of high shelves. Then you can reach for even more far out conclusions.

Obvisoulsy, Mr. Sheldon is a smart man. Why Spain? Why will their economy improve anytime soon? Why would anyone invest into the Euro idea as of now? I know there will always be people with money who want to gamble, but this seems like a weird time.

However, "the time to buy is when there's blood in the streets." Perhaps Mr. Sheldon is a great contrarian,

Of note in Spain, you can't walk away from a mortgage, ever. The debt follows you around forever if not paid off. That is one of the reason, I doubt there will be any recovery anytime soon there. I don't know if companies are treated differently, but if the casino does go tits up.

Those extended arms are probably sold out since several have speculated on Adelson’s motive to support a candidate that didn’t have ghost of a chance of securing the nomination.

What will you do when Santorum endorses Romney?

Rick did so in 2008 and he will again, especially if Romney’s campaign pays for his debts.

Yeah, that’s what Spain needs: 36,000 more hotel beds. And since unemployment is only 25+%, and the mean income of those who do have a job about 20k euros, it’s obvious that the Spanish with all that extra money they don’t know what to do with will flock to those casinos!

From the article:
Under its $31 billion Macau unit Sands China Ltd, the group already has two casinos open in the former Portuguese colony.

Left this rather pertinent bit out of your post.
This group is diversified in its holdings.

Gingrich already has by saying he believes Romney will be the likely nominee and he’ll work very hard to elect him. Ha!

Regardless of what Santorum or Gingrich does, I believe like the two of them would do, I will support the Republican nominee against Obama. As I have posted before no one can claim to be for God and country, and stay neutral in this race.

You're 100% correct when you say, “no one can claim to be for God and country, and stay neutral in this race.”

I sure as Hell am not going to meekly support a man I perceive as a fascist, a national socialist. If one ignores his pandering lies and examines his past governing record, he is neither a conservative nor a loyal American.

National socialism isn't now, nor has it ever been, a part of the Republican Party's platform. This isn't the year it will be tacked on.

There are 4+ months until Tampa, and 7+ months until the election itself in November. This is plenty of time for anything to happen and alter the trajectory of this race.

I am hoping that Santorum and Gingrich hold off on doing the ‘necessary’ thing (officially endorsing Romney) and instead join with other conservatives and marshal a mutiny contra the Republican establishment. It won't be easy - they'll have to stop squabbling among themselves - but it is possible.
