Ladies, I Don't Think You Know What Work Is
Tribune Media Services, Inc. ^ | 22 May 1990 | Mike Royko

``STUDENTS, faculty and guests of Wellesley College, welcome. As you know, Barbara Bush was supposed to be our commencement speaker. But at the last minute, she was asked to baby-sit for some of her grandchildren. Because she considers that to be a more fulfilling task, she has asked to be excused.

``In her absence, we have invited Chicago columnist Mike Royko to address you. Unlike Mrs. Bush, Mr. Royko has never been a housewife or mother. And he has a working career. So except for not being a female person, he fulfills the requirements of the 150 student feminists who signed petitions objecting to Mrs. Bush's presence. So I introduce Mr. Royko.''

``Thank you, Chancellor Whatsis, Dean Whoozits, and all the rest of you rich, Eastern elitists who have gathered at this citadel of snobbery.

Yes, Mike finally came over to the light late in life. He was a star of the left most of his career. When he was converted to a more conservative stance by reality, they started dumping on him.

Yes, it is timely, even though it is 22 yrs. old. Just goes to show, with Hilary Rosen’s comments about Ann Romney, that idiocy is forever.

Mike Royko was never a far lefty. Early to mid career, he threw some mud at the Birch Society and other conservative groups, but he moved from there to taking on the Daley machine.

By the time McGovern was nominated in 1972, the left loved him and saw him as their champion over the establishment Democrats. Sometime between the time that Nixon resigned and Carter took office, he evolved into one cf the great conservative voices in the editorial departments. By then, of course, he had such a nationally syndicated following that he had outgrown Chicago and it was impossible to fire him.

Still, he never gave up trying to clean up his beloved hometown.

Yep, isn’t it something that the feminazis just crap all over the very women who raised them?
