The Rev. Jesse Jackson joined local ministers and Houston Congressman Al Green at a news conference Thursday to call for an end to Stand Your Ground-type state laws across the nation and an end to gun violence.
The presentation at the Metropolitan Christian Methodist Episcopal Church came one day after George Zimmerman, a central Florida neighborhood watch captain, was charged with second-degree murder in the February fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin. The teens death has sparked an international outcry for the arrest of Zimmerman, who was released from police custody based on Floridas Stand Your Ground law. Numerous Justice for Trayvon rallies and protests have been held in Houston over the last few weeks.
Lets not forget that Mr. Zimmerman represents a first down, not a touchdown the beginning of a process. But far beyond him, the victory is not in how long he stays in jail. The victory is in repealing these draconian, stand your ground, self-defense, vigilante laws, Jackson told reporters and others attending a ministers conference. These laws incentivized vigilantism, take-the-law-into-your-own hands, kill or be killed. Thats beneath the civility of a great nation.
Green clarified that although Texas does not have a typical Stand Your Ground law, the group is calling for the repeal of the Castle Doctrine relating to self-defense.
The Castle Doctrine, as you know, has to do with ones home, but weve extended the Castle Doctrine beyond the home and while we dont call it Stand Your Ground you might recall that the Castle Doctrine was used to justify a homicide in Pasadena where two persons were shot outside of the mans home after the man was told not to go outside, Green said, referencing the 2007 Joe Horn case.

There is no possible way to consider self-defense or stand-your-ground or Castle Doctrine as “vigilante” in nature!
This is the moment which SHOULD knock Jesse Jackson’s off the racist ROOST that he so proudly occupies! Al Green and all the other Democrat racist jacka$$es who have screwed up a once great city in Texas should be ashamed of this suggestion!
This should be Jesse’s “Clayton Williams, Jr.” moment! Basically, these people just argued for something that gave Ann Richards the Texas Governorship! Basically, they are saying, “If you are being raped, robbed, assaulted, you might as well enjoy it or play along or hope for the best; then just wait for the cops!”
Screw ALL of them! I will not be a volunteer victim to a criminal!
As long as a certain segment of society thinks it’s perfectly fine to rob me of my hard-earned property, or worse, I am relieved these laws are in place. Any attempt to steal from me,or worse, will result in said thug assuming room temperature long before I do. Oh, and regardless of what sort of theatrical antics the thug’s family employs, they will not result in any sort of payday for them at my or my home insurance’s expense.
A happy ending for home owners defending their property and society has one less low-life criminal in it’s midst. A win-win for everyone. I love living in Texas and thank God for our ‘castle doctrine’.
Of course this race pimp would want an end to Stand Your Ground laws. His people are PROVABLY at risk based upon their propensity to commit more crimes per capita.
Doubly a problem for his people is they are committing these crimes against mostly their own people.
Jesse Jackson can go to hell.... Florida is and will be a “Stand Your Ground” state.
repealing these draconian....vigilante laws
Yeah, me and the rev it up agree on my slight edit to his words i.e. get rid of vigilante laws so some folk have an opportunity to do some redress about black on white crime via an extra legal approach.
Jesse, any Mau Mau Uprising at my house will be put down with great prejudice.
Only problem with that card is that Holder is not a “N”.
He’s an ARAB.
Wonder if Jesse will be interested in this case?
