National Right to Life, others endorse Romney (Dear Lord)
Baptist Press/Town Hall ^ | 4-12-12 | Michael Foust

National Right to Life and two other major pro-family groups have endorsed Mitt Romney for president, saying that on the issues of abortion and marriage, he stands with them.

National Right to Life's endorsement Thursday (April 12) came two days after Romney's leading challenger for the Republican nomination -- Rick Santorum -- dropped out, making Romney the presumptive nominee. Also endorsing Romney were the Susan B. Anthony List, a group that supports pro-life women for political office, and the National Organization for Marriage, which has led the charge nationwide in protecting the traditional definition of marriage.

In its endorsement, National Right to Life said Romney "has taken a strong pro-life position and is committed to implementing policies to protect the unborn." The organization said Romney:

-- opposes Roe v. Wade, having called the 1973 decision a "big mistake."

-- supports the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits the use of federal funds to pay for abortions.

-- backs the Mexico City Policy, which bans federal funds for organizations that perform or promote abortions in foreign countries.

"On pro-life issues, Mitt Romney and Barack Obama provide a stark contrast," said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. "As the country's most pro-abortion president, Barack Obama has pursued a radical pro-abortion agenda. It is now time for pro-life Americans to unite behind Mitt Romney. For the sake of unborn children, the disabled, and the elderly, we must win."

The Susan B. Anthony List made similar points and added that Romney has pledged to "appoint only constitutionalist judges to the federal bench" and also to defund Planned Parenthood.

"Women deserve a president who truly respects our views on an issue so central to womanhood," said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. "A President Romney will be that man. If there was murkiness during the last election over Barack Obama's extreme abortion position, absolute clarity exists now -- and his abortion position is rejected by women young and old."

The National Organization for Marriage, which played key roles in preventing gay "marriage" from being legalized in California and Maine, said Romney was an early signer of the organization's pledge, which meant he was committing to:

-- support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

-- appoint Supreme Court justices and an attorney general "who will apply the original meaning of the Constitution."

-- "vigorously" defend the federal Defense of Marriage Act in court.

-- establish a presidential commission on religious liberty.

-- advance legislation to allow District of Columbia citizens to vote on the definition of marriage. Gay "marriage" currently is legal in D.C.

Brian Brown, president of the National Organization for Marriage, said the group was "proud" to endorse Romney.

"President Obama," Brown said, "has declared our nation's marriage laws to be unconstitutional and not only has refused to defend them, his administration is actively working to repeal them in the courts. He's come out against state constitutional amendments defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. And he has appointed leaders of the same-sex 'marriage' movement as national co-chairs of his reelection campaign.

Incredibly, Obama still apparently claims to personally support traditional marriage. With friends like President Obama, the institution of marriage doesn't need enemies."

The real world is a little different than Free Republic. Figure it out.

Well said, but I think it will be difficult for the obsessive die-hards here to follow your advice. There are a lot of self-defeating stupid Freepers here (similar to the idiotic single-issue maniacs in DUmmyland). Fortunately, these people are insignificant aberrations on the fringes, inconsequential in their influence on the GOP. We will see...

My heart? In my heart, I’ve always known that the reality of the situation is that a vote for a third party is not in any way a vote for either of the two major party candidates. Period.

"She believes in something most don’t. It’s what Reagan called the 11th commandment.

I'm a fan of Sarah, and of Reagan. I don't know what posting her views is supposed to accomplish, unless you think that conservatives are such lemmings that we're going to do a 180 based on them. Sarah has said all along that she'll support the eventual nominee. We understand that. It's her choice.

But as for Reagan's 11th commandment, you need to understand something. God's commandments trump those of Reagan, Sarah, or anybody else.

You know the second someone endorses the lesser of two evils, they’re immediately labeled RINO.

When there is a conservative in the race?

They deserve to be called worse! The two evils are both PRO HOMO, PRO KILLING OF BABIES, both with LIBERAL accomplishments.

One doesn't even below in the GOP race!

There is NO decision - there is ONLY NEWT who represents AMERICA!

Why is it the evangelicals and right to lifers can forgive a man that supported abortion but they can't forgive Newt for his divorces?

So true, it was worth repeating!

I was very rebellious today--just sent my 7th donation to Newt.

Newt to Tampa! Romney to Golub!

they have sound reasons for their endorsements.

Yeah, Romney bought them off like he does with everything else. There is NOTHING good about them. RTL supports pro homo pro abortion mitt - they are frauds and a laughing stock now and what they will reap will be worse.

"You know the second someone endorses the lesser of two evils, they’re immediately labeled RINO. They endorsed Reagan over devout Christian Carter, but that matters not these days."

Jimmy Carter, a devout Christian? The Jimmy Carter who says he believes homosexuals should be allowed to marry because Christ has no problem with it?

LOL

As I sasid earlier, I won’t vote candidates who do not state a pro-life position.

It is why I was not one of those who supported Scott Brown here during the Obamacare fight, even though I understood the importance of his election. I couldn’t send money to someone who voiced an opinion that killing was OK.

Now, as a practical matter, I’ve voted for candidates who were pro-life but not all the way back to conception. Politically, those candidates would do as much as any elected person could do on the matter. I prefer more pure pro-lifers who don’t make exception for rape and incest, but I have voted for a rape/incest murderer before, because again they were supporting every law we could get passed that would make it through supreme court review.

If Romney is our nominee (and he is not yet), I will be able to cast a vote for him, because he has a stated pro-life position. I’d prefer a candidate who had a better, longer record of pro-life. Santorum was very good in that regard, as was Rick Perry.

If standing by one’s principles, and doing what one believes God is telling them to do is nothing but a bumpersticker to you, then I sincerely feel sorry for you.

Can you name 3 conservative things that Mitt Romney has accomplished vs the numerous conservative accomplishments by Newt as Speaker?
Oh, it also does appear they judge sins and Romney has been absolved of them all..his record is meaningless.

Newt's personal life had nothing to do with it. Evangelicals are supporting the man with the best chances of beating Obama. This man was never going to be Newt Gingrich. He chose not to take running for president seriously. Mitt Romney did.

I haven’t met, read, or heard of any evangelical or right-to-lifer who was specifically supporting Romney because they rejected Gingrich over his affairs. The “affair” people were mostly supporting Santorum, or Perry.

I can't even name three things Romney has done that can be called "Republican".

It's like a collective brain phart has taken over the GOP--a pro-choice,pro-gay marriage, pro-tax, pro-global warming, pro-government healthcare, pro-mandate liberal is now the leading contender for the GOP nomination.

You don’t know that Newt is finished. Things happen. I will continue to pull for Newt or a change at the convention. Regardless, I WILL vote against Soetoro in November.

God forgives divorces but NEVER KILLING OF helpless babies.

Voters for mitt are drawn towards evil. Mitt is PRO HOMO and anti-traditional marriage. And he lies like he breathes. Satan is the master of lies. Mitt is plain evil.
