Baseball-sized hail is tearing the siding off homes in northeast Nebraska, a tornado has touched down in Kansas and forecasters are warning residents across the nation's midsection to brace for "life threatening" storms.
The National Weather Service says a rain-wrapped tornado touched down in southwest Kansas on Saturday afternoon, while at least three possible tornadoes were reported earlier in central Oklahoma.
No injuries were immediately reported. But forecasters are expecting the most dangerous weather later in the day and are warning residents across the region of possible fast-moving tornadoes overnight.
Officials say a large area spanning from Minnesota to Texas could be at risk.
In Nebraska, Boone County Sheriff David Spiegel says large hail also damaged vehicles and shattered windows in and around Petersburg, about 140 miles northwest of Omaha.

Report on from “storm chaser Lance”; wonder what his life insurance premiums are? LOL. That’s pretty dicey work.
About 45 minutes ago I looked at national radar out of AOPA then went to Omaha at weather underground and watched the replay of what youse guys just went through,
WOW,

I should say upper Midwest
I’vew now got SKYWARN bookmarked; thanks. Here’s what I primarily use:

Prayers for everyone in the path of these storms...
I heard the dog was pro Reagan and anti-turbulent weather.
I have bean-laden chili and a lantern so I can both light the house and heat it.
Mmmmmmmmm; beans & chili! LOVE IT! And an extra *benefit*, to boot.
It’s all Romney and his Leftist Advisers fault.
lOL!
“I heard the dog was pro Reagan and anti-turbulent weather.”
I heard that, too...which of course makes the deed doubly heinous.
I love thunderstorms. It’s like the hand of God or the angels bowling.
Funny, I thought it was Bush’s fault...in all seriousness, it was the Dims (under Bill Clinton) who tried to close the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, which is responsible for forecasting severe weather outbreaks like the one in progress. It was a Republican by the name of J.C. Watts who saved the center—and countless lives—by keeping the SPC in operation. Remember that the next time you hear a Democrat talk about Republicans trying to “cut” NOAA.
“Better unplug electric things if its coming your way. That lightening can do real damage to electronics!”
I’m taking your advice. I have my wife up on the roof trying to dismantle the antenna but wind, rain, and hail are making it difficult. Luckily with all the lightning, she doesn’t need the flashlight she dropped.
Cherokee-seek shelter now!
“I have my wife up on the roof...”
THAT’s funny, Db41!
We are ready. SW MO has had its share of the monster storms..I am praying it misses us. After what happened to Joplin we had an in ground shelter built. My next door neighbor moved 3 miles from me and was killed in the last tornado in Cassville, MO. It was a fluke that the storm went through that particular area...Branson was hit too but thank God noone died
ROTFLMAO!!! I was in hysterics for a few minutes...once I caught my breath; I read it to my wife. She wasn’t quite as amused.
